Mulder hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2008, but since he left the game so early he should still have something left in the tank at 36.

The latest has the Angels as the front-runner to take a flyer on Mulder:

"The 36-year-old southpaw is attempting to make a comeback, and has thrown for the Halos, Giants, Padres, Diamondbacks and Phillies in recent weeks. While he will likely have to settle for an incentive-laden minor league deal, he represents a low-risk, potentially high-reward signing. It's unclear whether he would be utilized in the rotation or out of the bullpen."

Who else can you guys think of that left the game young due to injuries to returned 5+ years later?

Hope to see him succeed. I used to love the seeing the Zito, Mulder, Hudson trio in Oakland.

I can't think of anyone who took that much time off and came back. I think Mulder is an extremely low risk high reward signing and he won't have to bat in the AL which is a plus I think.

FWIW, during his work out sessions he was running his fastball up to 92mph, while during his peak he was 89-90. Intriguing to see if his shoulder will hold up this many years later.

No velocity! no way!

But, he Cant be any worse than Zito now.... if he worked on arm strength the last 5 years, he may even be able to throw a ball with enough velocity to break through a paper bag, but I wouldnt count on it

I dont get how these tall Lefties can only get the ball up to 88/90 MPH... if that... Im 47 can can still throw 92 on flat ground in tennis shoes ...nothing to brag about as I did that at 15 too, but anyone with that size and any type of decent mechanics should be able to throw a bit harder than these 2 have/do, when needed...
batters will be keying in on his junk, because he cant blow anything past anyone... he better work on some good movement on his other pitches or try a knuckler lol... his last couple real years he was a great batting practice pitcher... 1.7, 2.6, 3.6 whips last 3 seasons... and he has never broke the 3 ERA barrier even though he pitched in pitcher friendly parks, he has always been overrated, he would have had average #s on an average team...

probably ran out of $$$, thus the return...
