They seem to be taking MAP and applying it beyond the core word which is "advertised". I deal with MAP on a daily basis in my "real world" industry and the issue is advertised price. What I believe we've seen with Panini is MRP or minimum retail price whereby dealers are restricted to a minimum selling price. MAP doesn't restrict selling price, just the price the item is advertised for. If Panini truly had MAP, then I could call up ATL and order Panini product at whatever price Josh is willing to sell at, meanwhile the price on his website would remain at MAP.

I believe most dealers do that anyway no matter what panini says.

I would hope so otherwise they'll be sitting with that stuff on their shelves for the foreseeable future. I agree with Drew's point, make a product worth the price and let the market dictate. It's pretty simple really.

they dont like seeing their product go from $150(cost) on release to $100 the next day. Happened with Elite Series Basketball.

Doesn't Titleist do this with their products? You NEVER see an ad with Titleist clubs in it because you can't print the price. Hell, I'm pretty sure they would even post a price on sites like Golf Galaxy until the club is in the cart.

I think a MAPP in this case is bad. I think controlled distribution is good. Unfortunately I think Panini just doesn't get it. They have pumped out way too many really bad products, it doesn't matter what type of price they want us to sell it for, it just won't sell.

Titleist and Ping do this. Ping has even come up with what is known as the orange and blue laws when dealing with selling & advertising their product. If Titleist or Ping catch a retailer selling or promoting their products at prices they didn't approve they pull their account.
Is Panini planing on doing the same??? Lol

This is my thought exactly. If you make crap, then trying to artificially keep the prices up are a joke. You know who this is gonna hurt? The distributors. They are going to get stuck with a TON of product. To use Ripkings for example, unless a product is guaranteed to be a hit (NT and that's about it for Panini), then why would I pre-order 5 cases? When I know damn well that they will have PLENTY of cases in stock two weeks after release, and we can all determine if the product is worth a crap. Bottom line is that they are pumping out product and product, with low end rc autos being the main content. What ever happened to veteran/star autographs? WHERE ARE THEY! I fully realize that it is easy and cheap to have rcs who make far less money are easier to negotiate with, and you can get 5000 stickers signed for $10,000, or $5,000 depending on the player. But COME ON. For example, busted a case of Prizm and Prime football last night. We hit 2 total non-rc autographs. SAD.

Interesting.

Titleist and Ping have such prestige in their market that they can do that. Panini? Not so much. It only works if the products are of better quality than the competitors.

distributors and the lcs. Panini stuff just rots on the shelves at FCB unless it is high end. I doubt thats a trend that just FCB is feeling. Hopefully the basketball rookies EXPLODE on court because there will be little hype for this year's basketball stuff otherwise.
