Why is it that teams/players/fighters say thanks to God for helping them win, yet they never thank God for helping them lose?

I watch a lot of UFC and laugh each time a fighter says, "I want to thank God for the strength to come in here and do battle" - meanwhile a fellow believer is lying unconscious and bloody on the mat.

Anyone who thinks that their god cares about sports, or their country is fooling themselves.
