I used to be more into football back in the 90s than baseball as far as collecting. I had, and still have a large Barry Sanders collection from then. I know QBs have always been the kings in the collecting world. That said, it used to be WR got little to no love from collectors. Has it changed at all recently with the game being more pass oriented?

Just wondering because there are some sleepers that I might want to go after, but some are WRs and I'm wondering if it's worth it with them?

I feel like WRs are getting more love past their rookie year. Pass happy offense certainly helps.

Man, I just got done browsing prices on ebay for guys like Luck and RG3. Their RC autos make Trout and Harper look like steals.

Also, I'd much rather have a Cam Newton RC auto, going for less. The chance that any rookie has the kind of season he had is nearly impossible.

No Northcutt = sad me. I've been picking up Isaiah Pead stuff and Juron Criner, because of the schools' they attended.

The NFL is more of a passing league these days so WRs have been getting much more hobby love in recent years. It can take a season or two to really get noticed, particularly outside of a player in a big market, Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, and Mike Wallace to name a few. The 2012 draft was very deep for receiver talent and there will likely be a few "sleepers" who make an impact. I have not exactly backed up the truck on these guys yet but I like Houston's rookie receivers Posey and Martin. Johnson is getting older and seemingly more gimpy. Schaub is back and one or both of these guys could put up some nice numbers this year.

The great thing about football "prospecting" is that EVERY body gets hot once, even if it's just for a week...

F2tornado hit it on the head for me. If you somewhat know your team and kind of know what to expect, and have time to watch preseason and go to training camp, you end up figuring out who to buy. The last three seasons I have stocked way up on all the players I could. I've done well though I don't intend to sell. This year I've been nabbing posey and Martin autos from the getgo. Nothing super rate but that's what I like about football. You can do this cheaply and even though in some cases you wouldn't make a mint, you're only spending $5 or $6 an auto. That's not much of a risk.

As for worrying about value, I wouldn't if you aren't selling. I've got a hell of a stash of brian Cushing and jj watt stuff. Even after how they have played, being defensive guys, the cards still aren't worth much but for the buy in prices and how good they've been, who cares?
