I'll start it off with a topic.

You acquire a serial numbered insert for your collection, but you notice on the back where it has been numbered has no foil. You have to hold it up to the light to see the impression of the number. Nothing super rare - just numbered to 100. Do you:

1. Call it good and mark it off your list.

2. Consider it defective and throw it in a commons box with a sigh.

3. Get excited because now you have a no foil serial # variation of this card that possibly no one else has!

I'd mark it as having the card. I don't like them without foil though, remember the phantom numbering on topps gold label?

I consider this a variation and do NOT cross it off my list. I've got a couple blank-back Reynolds cards from the late-80s and consider them just that "variations".

I don't know about the missing serial-numbered though...I haven't seen any of those, but I'd probably consider it a variation and still want a numbered version before marking it off the list.

There are some sets that do not have foil in the serial numbering. 1999 Topps Stars and 1999 Topps Gold Lable come to mind. But if there is supposed to be foil serial numbering then I am happy to have the card and look for a replacement as soon as one surfaces.

Option 2 is not an option for any serious player collector or super collector. Nothing with our player's image would ever end up in a common box!

Well that answers a question in my collection! One of my two like this is a 1999 Topps Stars. And oddly I don't have any 1999 Topps Gold Labels... I'm assuming it's on the Red Labels only since they're serial #'d. So now I know not to be disappointed.

Without a question.

Similarly, when I find Robin Ventura cards with fish eyes, plate-shifting, miscuts, or any other printing flaws, I am supremely happy.

Also regarding serial numbering, do you place a premium on the first, last, and jersey number serial numbering?

1. Yes, any true super collector would.
2. Jersey number, yes, but first and last hold no significance to me.
3. No - I just need one for my collection and I'm good.

first last or jersey usually demands a premium.. I don't personally care as long as I have a copy of the card it doesn't matter what one. I do have a couple cool coincidence type cards that fit those catagories but I didn't pay anything extra for them.

No jersey # premiums. I may even have a few, but didn't pay a premium. Probably just overpaid as usual! :D

Okay, next question

How often do you check your favorite websites for what you collect?

1. Multiple times a day - what I collect is that competitive.
2. Once a day.
3. A couple times a week.
4. I check Ebay a lot and the other sites every once in a while.
5. Other

I have a saved search set up on ebay, so I check it once a day. There's not much I need for Reynolds, so it's not often something shows up...

Multiple times a day...not that its competitive, I just get bored sitting at work with nothing to do.
