Nomar is right. Boston is all about the Smear Campaign. I've been saying it for ever.

Whenever a player leaves he is always degraded by the fans. Now the manager is getting the same treatment from the management.

Should have known you wouldn't miss your opportunity to rip on Boston in this thread. With little actual knowledge I might add. Yankee turds like yourself are the reason Red Sox fans have such a hatred for you.

What exactly was Nomar right about? He was traded because he was becoming a cancer crying about his contract extension and he couldn't stay healthy. How many great seasons did he have after leaving Boston? There was no smear campaign, what was said in the media was the truth. If anything, Nomar started a smear campaign about Boston to make him look better.

I agree 100% with you about the Red Sox.... Never thought I would say that. It is a pattern to try to publicly destroy any players after they leave Boston.

I think it's a good thing for both parties. We must not forget that 10 years in the same organization, at the same position, especially when you are general manager or coach, is an eternity. It's the end of a cycle for the Red Sox, and they will recover. I also believe that Theo has lots of work ahead of him, he inherits he inherits a club mismanaged for too long.

Gordon Edes of ESPN who covered the Sox for a long time with the Boston Globe said the same thing: the Red Sox smear folks out the door so that ownership remains bulletproof. The Red Sox are a great franchise but when you are walking out the door they are going to stab you in the back.

http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7092528/terry-francona-victim-latest-red-sox-smear-campaign

PS: Mark my words, Red Sox ownership will be leaking stories in the local Boston papers about how Lucchino and other members of the front office are responsible for all the good moves, player development and success in Boston over the last decade while Theo was a bumbling idiot who limited the Red Sox to 2 World Series instead of the 5 or 6 they would have won without his meddling.

Again, this Nomar's opinion? Not fact! Of the 3 recent players on the list, only Pedro was smeared for little reason. Although his contract request was ridiculous and again Boston showed they made the correct decision on this one.

Manny may have been ripped on, but would he have been any less ripped on by any other teams fans for the crap he pulled to get traded? And Damon, he was a fan favorite and took the money to go play for the Yankees. Again, no other team's fans would be disappointed by this? He was definately not smeared by the organization. Again, facts played out here. He took more money to go play for the Yankees, the Red Sox made him a fair offer, he declined. How is this smearing him? In many ways, I actually remember Theo and the organization going out of their way to say nice things about him?

And the rest of the article goes on to name 4 former players. So in the span of the Red Sox existance, 8 players were "supposedly" smeared by the organization and fans according to crybaby Nomar. I guess you are right, Boston is all about the smear campaign.

The smear stuff from Sox management is an issue, although in some cases like Nomar, it is more than deserved. Several others, Francona included, deserved better though.

While I disagree with what was said about Francona, he also didn't go out in the classiest way either. He could have just said "I think it's time for me to move on" and leave. Instead he took shots at players and management on his way out. What Francona said may or may not have been deserved, but I'm not surprised that management fired back.

I'm sure the smear campaign from ownership had a lot to do with comments that Tito made on his way out. I don't think there was anything wrong with what he said, but I'm sure that was a large part of it

The Globe should be disgusted with this report. It's spotty journalism at best citing numerous unnamed sources throwing people under the bus left and right. A report that Francona was using pain killers in inexcusable. That has no part being in the public eye. It's clear ownership wanted to blame people for what happened and try to make fans believe that the issues are all Tito's and Theo's, and I don't think it will work. Most fans are disgusted with the way ownership has handled this

If he does it will again show how the Cubs continue to make stupid moves! Ya think Theo will learn from all those awful long term contracts in NY, SF and his newly minted FLUBS? :D
Better yet..12 years at 390 mil!!!

Wonder how much money he's going to have to work with?

This off season will be very interesting. Over $50 million coming off the books with Silva, Aramis, Kosuke, Pena, and others off the books. He will have a ton to work with.

skrip

Guys like cashman and Epstein are given unlimited bankrolls. They are given entirely too much credit. Give those guy avg bankrolls and then judge them. Its all funny and im a Yankees fan. How hard can it be.

thanked

sarcasm? serious? it doesn't matter
albert admires his own home runs etc. thats about where his bevy of low-class moves ends.
he would never associate himself with a low class act like epstein, the cubs org., the red sox org., or the yankees org. for that matter.
epstein didnt do crap for boston that any other gm couldnt have done.
cashman is just that, the cash man.
shaking hands with hendry was a fond farewell.
he will be in st louis until the end of his career. class on both sides guarantees that.

YOU KNOW
cubs are my 2nd favorite team / favorite NL team because of 03 and the way it went down for both us sox and cubs fans so i dont really think of myself as becoming an idiot after winning. i still remember the losing. that being said, i still think theo is an overrated gm.

How should he have gone out? He was fired, except the organization never had the balls to say he was fired. They hung him out to dry, and then had to release this BS story to justify why he's out, and still never admit to firing him because they don't want the PR hit. I'd be pissed if I were him, too - they make him go through the dog and pony show of pretending it was a mutual decision, and then trash him anyway.

I wish Theo well. I wouldn't mind him staying, but as it was alluded to earlier, there's no way he could continue to work with this ownership group. So now they get a new, fresh face that they can control.

And to whoever referred to "Red Sox Nation" and "entitled" - those aren't the real fans. Those are the ones that just stay at Fenway to sing Sweet Caroline and just go to games so they can say they went. Trust me, there are still some pretty clear thinking people here; we just don't make up the majority anymore, sadly.
