The rivalry with BTT and Hammer House (after Coleman beat Shogun and then Phil Baroni stomped on Wanderlei's head).
Krazy Horse getting choked out backstage by Marcello.
This is the type of stuff Sam that I talk about that you cant fully appreciate unless you were a fan at the time.
Great cast in this video of after Shogun's "loss" to Coleman. Coleman, Shogun, Wanderlei, Rampage, Ninja.

I was a fan then and I can't appreciate it. Didn't back then and I still don't. What is there to appreciate about a roided out Colman throwing the ref off him to try and get to Shogun? He knew his arm was broken. What's there to appreciate about a backstage WWF style fight which was nothing more than a technical street fight?

There were rivalries back in MMA then.
BTT and Chute Boxe HATED each other.
Coleman and Wanderlei were cool with each other until that first shogun fight. Hell they even filmed a razor blade commercial together.
Krazy Horse is Krazy. Put those guys in a room together and of course crap will go down.
Nowadays a guy knocks another guy down he will hover over him or even help him up. Back then oh I knocked someone down, lets go stomp their head.
No one knows whether or not Coleman was on roids so its really baseless. The adrenaline rush in there is quite high. often times you dont feel the effects of a fight until several hours later.
Its quite possible a ton of guys used. Arona, Wanderlei, hell maybe even Shogun.

It truely was an amazing time for mma. Great rivalries, just about all of the big names, amazing fighter entrances and lead-up video packages, 60,000+ fans at sold out arenas... The UFC (or any other org) will never match what Pride once was. Never.

I agree with most of that. I like the rivalries. They are healthy. People who truly hate each other make for some epic fights. I don't like all the backstage fighting. You don't see that in the UFC. Sure people break hollow core doors on TUF but they actually don't start a street fight. I disagree about the UFC though. They could easily sellout a 60K arena with a good card right now.

I guess we just disagree about MMA then. That's what I like about MMA. That's what separates MMA from boxing. Two guys can step into a cage and beat the shat out of each other and then shake hands and be cool about it afterward.

Yeah that's Aldo. They all train together except King Mo. They all look like a group of friends hanging out in Vegas together. Imagine not knowing who they are and trying to pick a bar fight with them.
