I came across this article today, and although it is really old (2003), everything he talks about still applies. Some good stuff...

Unfortunately, you have to be a subscriber to read the whole thing, but he does have a very valid point. Another reason that hitters are better guys to invest in...

Can't read the whole article, but I think I get the gist. The hobby is so shortsighted that this no longer plays much of a roll (wait until the pitch a couple good games and then sell, no need to worry about a good career, or even a good season.

That said, it's pretty insane when you consider how many of the greats had awful seasons during their careers, and how many one-hit wonders have had their 15 minutes of fame.

Why do you feel hitters are such a better investment??

There are huge success and horror stories on both sides aren't there?

I have hit much bigger and more consistently on pitchers than hitters. Maybe the people that are failing on pitchers just aren't that good at prospecting them???

Exactly. If you go through the years and break down the prospects by pitcher & position player you will find that the pitchers have a better return and usually are the better cards of the sets. This isn't always the case but I think holds true for most years.
