Longshot TTMs pay off sometimes.

This is actually a picture of him with the Astros, not a Photoshop. I had to take a still frame from a medium quality game video.

Question for you and the other team autograph completists who are in this thread - would you consider picking up a cheap sticker auto card for a player you need, but on another team - then peeling off the sticker and sticking it on a base card of the player on your team?
I'm seriously considering this for Zach Greinke. He's asking $400 per auto now and he's not worth that.

As much as I enjoy the correctness of a signed Dodger card, I am a cheapskate and want more for my money, so I almost always go out and buy the best (most appealing and/or cheapest) certified card of a new Dodger that I can find. If I can upgrade to a Dodger image later, great. If I can't, I don't worry about it. So many pitchers get a a couple starts and then are gone forever. Many never have Dodger cards to begin with and although I respect the hustle a lot of team collectors have, I don't have the same patience.

It's like set building to me. I am not going to spend 2-3 figures for a common high number/SP that means nothing to me, just to have a full set. I'd rather spend that on items I REALLY WANT. Likewise, I will not pay a huge premium for a signed Dodger card just because they are scarce, with maybe a hand full of exceptions that would be more meaningful to me.

I have a couple certified Greinke cards thankfully. None picture him as a Dodger, of course. Even those are not cheap, but a viable option if one had to have a card from a certain team.

I will take the sticker off of a card and put it on a custom card. I try to only do that for players who do not have Rangers cards.

I will even make custom cut cards for players that don't have sticker autographs and have been difficult to obtain either via ttm or through private signings.

It does make it more time-consuming and can ruin any type of resale value, but I'm okay with that.

Brace yourselves!

First, four upgrades.

IMG_4422 (1).jpg

Jim Bouton, upgrades from an index card, but I will hopefully upgrade this one day too.

IMG_4421 (1).jpg

Aaron Pointer custom. I swear I'm the only person he won't sign for TTM, so I found a cheap custom on eBay to upgrade an Index Card.

IMG_4420.jpg

Matt Gage. This is an upgrade from this exact card that only had Gage's signature. A mega-successful Spring Training helped with this upgrade. I also have another copy coming from a different consignment that was solo-signed by Salazar.

IMG_4412.jpg

Shawn Dubin upgraded from a solo card of Dubin. I always prefer multi-signed. You'll see another copy of this success in just a moment.

And now for 7 (SEVEN!) new additions.

I hit the image limit, that has never happened before!

Overall, an incredible Spring Training.

I still have one more new addition confirmed, but I don't like to update until I have them in hand.

One new pickup, one upgrade, and 7 new needs.

Let's start with the new needs. Ryan Gusto, Steen Okert, Isaac Paredes, Brendan Rodgers, Cam Smith, Christian Walker, and Hayden Wesneski have all debuted with the Astros so far this season.

IMG_4542.jpg

Gage/Salazar dual signed. I already had this dual-signed once, but this one upgrades a single-signed Salazar.

IMG_4543.jpg

Alex Speas is a new addition. He was unremarkable last year, but he is likely to disappear soon and I'm glad to have this one off the list.

When i found out about him, I had to send a request. One of only a handful of my very limited TTM request attempts I have ever made. Wish I were more motivated. I hate the fear of losing the cards (and the time invested). No risk, no reward. Sorry to hear he has been tough. Maybe I got lucky or maybe he is not a fan of customs, although that one clearly is too.

This man has had a very interesting life with some really neat highlights and connections to speak about. If you have not heard of him, and many probably will not have, look him up!

I got him on his only Topps card and a Venezuelan. We are practically (well, maybe not THAT close) neighbors.
