These pink bats give me an idea

I know they have been doing the pink ones for a few years, but they gave me an idea last year. I emailed the idea to someone that works in the Commish's office but I never got a response.

About 10 years ago my dad was diagnosed with prostate disease, though he is perfectly healthy now, it still effects a lot of families throughout the country. I wonder why MLB doesn't do blue bats on Father's Day and auction them off to benefit that common disease. You would think they would give it a try with the success the pink ones have had with donating money to help fight breast cancer. Just a thought, what do you guys think?

The blue ribbon logo will also appear on the bases, commemorative home plates and the official dugout lineup cards. Game-used bases, team-autographed commemorative home plates and lineup cards from each ballpark will be auctioned off at a later date to raise additional funds for PCF. "

On Father's Day, they do use the blue ribbons, arm bands, etc, but not the blue bats.

It would be the thing to do.

The thing with the bats is that all the pink ones are donated (by Rawlings?) at a cost of over $100,000. It would be great to do blue ones too, but you need another similar donation to do it.

I did not realize they were all donated. It would be asking a lot to have Rawlings do that twice in the span of a month.

A donation would be fairly easily obtained. The bat's don't cost that much and it's wonderful use of advertising money.

I actually think it's lung cancer that gets shafted since it is the leading cause of cancer death of both men and women (kills more people than prostate and breast cancer combined). I'm be for putting more money into lung cancer research but I think a lot of people are fairly reluctant towards the idea since it's still regarded as primarily a smoker's disease.

All the bat makers do the pink thing. Louisville Slugger is the only one that can use the breast cancer ribbon symbol with MLB logo on them. As they have a contract with MLB that only let's them put team names and MLB logo on them. But X-Bat, Rawling, CTG, BWP ect...and heck even Nike made pink bats for a few guys that use them. I've followed the auctions every year. I also haven't heard before that the bat makers donate them for free to the player's. They may be, just have never heard it.

Yeah this topic has been brought up before on Game Used site I read. They do things on Father's Day as well, just not bats. MLB only approves the use of the pink color for Mother's Day games only. In past guys have tried using them the next day and ump made them switch. Although, last year a few games got rained out and MLB allowed those teams to use them in the next game they had.

If anybody is interested in buying a pink non-GU bat, mlb.com has them for sale. Be patient, and eventually they come down in price. I bought a 2007 model for $30. incl. shipping. Haven't had it auto'ed yet, but one of these days, it'll have the M&M boys on it.

A lot of diseases are caused by poor habits, not just lung cancer. Heart disease, obesity, diabetes, etc. are mostly the result of poor nutrition and inadequate exercise. Should we hang those people out to dry too?

I'm one of those people who think breast cancer is way overpublicized and overfunded. Research funding for breast cancer (a disease that affects predominantly women and one that we can already handle pretty well with early detection) is roughly $270 mil compared with $90 mil for lung cancer (which kills more mothers and fathers than breast or prostate cancer). The research funding pie is only so big and unfortunately breast cancer advocacy is extremely good and persistent.

yeah i remember them doing all of that as well...ive always wanted them to do the bat thing too. maybe if they get alot of people emailing them with the idea they might kick it around for next year (since fathers day is a month away and you know we cant rush a multi-billion dollar business lol). since it is by donation as a previous post said it might be too much to ask of louisville slugger but maybe some other brands might be down for the publicity...
