The ball didn't touch him, he flopped. Maybe he should have played soccer.

First of all, I remember watching this play either live or on SportsCenter when it happened. Jeter definitely deserved an Oscar for that one.

Secondly, Jeter shows exactly why soccer players *flop. The risk/reward ratio encourages players to dive for calls as set pieces near the goal provide the best chances to score. A little acting scored Jeter a free walk to first base. There was very little backlash by the media for his stunt, so why not do it? MLB, FIFA, et al., could prevent this by retroactively punishing players, like Jeter here, who "flop" or use theatrics to deceive the refs/officials/umpires. With so many cameras nowadays, it wouldn't be difficult to review and rule on these plays.

Sorry, I played competitive soccer growing up and while I know flopping goes on, I feel like I have to defend soccer players a little bit. I know the common perception is that they are wusses, when in reality it's more due to their competitive nature and the fact that drawing a penalty by tricking the ref can have pay big dividends on the field. FIFA has started to award yellow cards for diving in the past couple of years which has helped BTW. Sorry for the diatribe. :D

The announcers even said it hit his arm after the bat. Is he supposed to tell the ump? How about when guys miss the tag but show the ball lets see some topics on them...Of course not.

It looks to me like it hit him before the bat when I just paused/slow mo'd it on youtube but I am a homer.
