Can't imagine why Jeter wouldn't want to sign for these people....I mean JUST 2 kids and the rest are adults and should be ashamed of themselves

Michael Zwick, a 47-year-old nurse from Tampa, had secured his spot at the front of the line by getting to the complex at 3 a.m.

Melissa Davis, a patient-support technician at a hospital in nearby Clearwater, whose prize for showing up at 4 a.m. was the sixth spot in line, a prime piece of real estate.

Vince Santillo, a 27-year-old Tampa resident who works at a gas station.

Rivero, 50, from accumulating 30 Jeter autographs over the years. Signed baseballs. Signed jerseys. Signed photos. Rivero even has Jeter’s signature on a box of Jeter-brand cologne.

Matt Monteleone, a 29-year-old student who was the eighth person in line

After Monteleone received his autograph, Johnson threw a curveball and asked if any children were in line. A young boy and girl scampered to the front. Jeter signed for them and then drove away,

Odds that those kids were getting graphs for their parents... pretty good.

As a business owner that has to work to earn the living without the luxury of such dispensable time off - I wish I had the time to do that. And - if I did... would I spend it doing that?

Yeah well this board is not known for a lot of IP autographing so I don't expect much more from y'all. I already know Jeff's feelings towards it so it is what it is. But it's not a bad hobby and anyone who has a hobby ought to be level headed enough not to bash another hobby. Yes some of the graphers take it a bit far but nothing in this story hinted of that. If I lived in Florida and thought I had a shot, I'd be right there with them. Nothing to be ashamed of at all.

My favorite are the ones who say they are collectors yet they are the first to run home list those Jeter on EBAY along with some fakes mixed in and whamo $125+ for a days work. Add that with the 75 cards they have a kid sign to stock up that ebay inventory. Yeah they collect alright.

Sorry - I'm not following... there were some people who lined up for Jeter's autograph in a parking lot. Some got some signatures some didn't?

I collect a lot of IP autographs. I admit I haven't actually got any at a game in quite some years and usually just pay for them at shows and local signings but still... I don't see how any of these people did anything wrong. They weren't "stalking" him in terms of showing up at his hotel or home. Hell, they didn't even pitch a XXXXX when he didn't sign. They just showed up and hoped.

So.... what's the problem here?

Thirty year old guys buying 75.00 cards and spending three hours of sorting is just as absurd. I think it's absurd to sit in a deer stand for six hours in 30 degree weather and not even see a deer. One time Matt Morris asked me why I was outside a baseball stadium at 11am. I replied " Not everybody works on a Friday Mr Morris " He smiled and signed.

You said it better than I could. Thank you

I blasted wil Myers for not signing prior to a storm chasers game last year.. Until I realized what he was doing. He would walk away from the dugout look for a small group of kids mosey over, sign, then when adults started to line up he would go back to warm up swings.

I think ip is a great hobby but I think children first should be the motto.

I find it comical that some people on this board think less of people who get IP autographs when the reality of it all is we all collect, buy, sell and trade Sports cards. Like someone else said, I find it absurd to go sit in the woods for hours waiting for some animal to cross my path so I can shoot it. I wish I had more time to do IP autographs, much nicer to own something IP than store bought. But then again how easily I forget how perfect some of you are. :benson:

I laugh when people post the things they do about IP autograph collectors. The I go look at the 25 thousand different autographs I have. 20+ years of IP autographs leads to a lot of cool looking cards.

Why are they freaks? Because they're diehard autograph collectors and fans of Jeter?
They weren't being rude or stalking Jeter. Even the guy with 30 Jeter autographs seemed like a fan.
Who cares how old they are or that they waited a long time.
Every autograph I've gotten in person means a million times more to me than a certified autographed card I've bought on eBay.

Jeff, you know how you tell stories about your son getting Phillies players autographs and how much they mean to him?
Well, adults can feel that way too when they meet their favorite player, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I don't think kids should be the only ones getting them either. Yes they should be able to get autos but when I was growing up, I went to a handful of games and that was it. Got Mark Portugal and that was the only IP auto I ever got as a youngster. Now that I can afford to buy things and go where athletes are whenever I wish to, I think I have the same rights. But I'd always let a kid in front of me. I've also called a player back down the line for kids. I just think you sign for everyone you can or nobody at all.

I find it both comical & pathetic to watch grown men swoon ball players for autographs, like a bunch little girls would towards Justin Bieber....There comes a time to grow up, be a man and leave some things for the kids......BTW I do not claim to be perfect in anyway, just my take after witnessing it for many years

Sadly the majority are dealers, some are real classy and send kids to do their business work. I seen and adult once get an autograph from Mariano turn around and try to sell the signed ball to a child's father after MO drove away. Why? Cause his kid was crying (he was 3 and didnt fully understand) because he didnt get a ball. But dont worry he offered to sell it $20 less than ebay, because you know he is a class act.

Hate seeing this, its what gives all sellers a bad reputation whether they deserve it or not because it seems to happen all too frequently.

Waiting outside of a practice facility isn't really bothersome. It's not like they are outside his hotel, front door, or bothering him while he's eating dinner.

What really bothers me though is these people's attitude. You are going to go "drown your sorrows" because Jeter wouldn't sign your $2 poster?

These people make the good graphers, like myself, look bad.
