As I who doesn't follow basketball cards in the slightest, could someone shed some light on what's going on? Panini, the sole liscensee, isn't producing cards this year? How come?

Panini America Unveils New Roster of 2011-12 NBA Trading Card Products
December 20, 2011

Panini America, the world’s largest sports and entertainment collectibles company and the exclusive trading card partner of the NBA, will celebrate the NBA’s return with a completely overhauled roster of products for the 2011-12 season engineered to appeal equally to casual fans and hardcore collectors alike.

The company announced today that it has planned five products for new season, including the return of the venerable Hoops brand and special double rookie redemption cards honoring the 2011-12 and 2012-13 Rookie Classes.

So essentially you won't pull rookies from this years product, you will pull redemptions for them next year. Kind of dumb, but oh well.

With the lockout, they wouldn't be able to produce a full run of all the products and therefore not get a lot of bang for their buck - I assume that's why they aren't doing anything and will hold off till next year and insert them in all the products.

Agreed. I wish UD would put out a collegiate version of Exquisite basketball. They are releasing a Retro product without a license, why not Exquisite?

Beat me to it, he's at 34 points halfway thru the 4th with a ton of rebounds and nice assists. On National TV, against a better team, who knows what will happen... :shock:

Haven't seen anything like this since Phelps' cards blew up during/shortly after the Olympics.

I've never been so excited about watching a basketball game. Last time I recall feeling this way about a sporting event was when McGwire broke Maris's record. Lin was unreal. I read his story about a month ago but had no idea he has the ability to be a superstar.
