I think the reason people dont like cold lists is that 99% of cards are 'cold' whereas its harder to find 'hot' cards. A cold list could be thousands deep. How do you pick the ones to feature?

I also think that there have been times where i notice a card is 'cold' and that leads me to decide, will it rebound? if so, i dont want to tell people about it, i want to buy them before everyone notices and it rebounds.

All that being said, good read AS ALWAYS,

I personally believe those who like cold lists also enjoy going to NASCAR events simply to root for crashes.

While I always enjoy the hot lists masonphillip produces, I thoroughly enjoyed this one and its perspective.

Frankly only reading hot lists is about as useful as only reading the Forbes BUY recommendations week after week. You get almost zero understanding of the market and are most definitely going to get wiped out if you stupidly choose to buy by the big fish who already know better.

BTW, that Luck card at the end of the list looks AMAZING!

Haha, perhaps true.

That being said, thanks for the feedback guys, never hurts to try different things once in a while just to see.

Well done as always!

When these lists started, I was one who questioned the purpose of them. To me, they are “interesting hobby info”. I don’t mean that in a negative way. Lord knows the members of these boards love their lists (any kind of list). The hot lists also identify cards that are ripe to SELL. Think about it…these lists are beneficial to those folks who already own the hot cards. It would be foolish to see a card on the hot list and then click over to eBay to purchase a copy (basically buying at a peak).

Adding a “cold” section can actually benefit buyers (often collectors) instead of those folks looking to sell. For example, I didn’t realize Hanson’s card prices had dropped. I can understand why prospectors and flippers wouldn’t want undervalued cards to be highlighted, but as a collector (primarily) I like it.

Once again, nice job masonphillip.

Collecting is a funny thing. Porcello is pitching some of his best games ever recently, and no love. Just goes to show when the hype leaves it rarely returns.

Yes but we all know that there is veteran prospecting. The man in your sig has probably shifted in value many times.
I'm sure things were up when he was a prospect, cooled in 2006, went back up again, perhaps cooled in 2009,
shot back up when he went to the Yankees, had another cooling period, then shot way back up when he was getting
MVP consideration in 2011. I have no idea I'm simply estimating. Porcello is young and I'm sure his future is bright.
I bet there are people buying his inexpensive stuff right now, hoping for that warming period.

I'd buy Masterson gold refractors @ $15 all day. That's insane.

Yeah not sure what the proper place is, it certainly wouldn't replace it the Hot List and could be thousands of names deep as others have pointed out but what I tried to focus on "once hot prospects who now sell for a whole lot less" is kind of fun.

Instead of a 'cold list' perhaps it becomes an 'opportunity list'

But then those are the kinds of things people rarely like to share, and actually get pissy about because it cuts into their ability to load up on stuff.

Its' not like a real stock market where there are tens of thousands of shares available at any one time.

One mention of an obscure prospect can take the 10-100 cards on ebay and the 5-10 available on becket, comc, and thepit out of the opportunisitc price range in a day.

Great list, Phil ! I love the cold list, as it usually includes a player or two I either collect or dabble in collecting ....
