and you are comparing apples to oranges as well ... It maybe professional baseball but its not the big leagues.

thats like saying so and so played 7 years in the Arena football league thus he's superior to a kid coming out of college baseball

That I know of, no one has ever compared arena football to college baseball.

His team their was rumored to be offering him 9mil per to stay.

Actually arena league or Canadian football league to NFL might be a spot on comparison to MLB to Japanese baseball League.

Maybe, but you don't see NFL teams paying CFL or AFL players 10+ million a year to leave their respective leagues. That's because the NPB is a major league with major money to spend. A better comparison for NPB would be the KHL.

The NPB league cannot even come close to paying there players what MLB teams can.

last time I checked the Brewers have been good recently ... that being said I would certainly like a shot at the best players in the world not in the MiLB or MLB. The best way to do that is have a draft. Theres no borders in the NBA draft. Why does baseball's have to have borders

Other countries have leagues and contracts. It's not like Tanaka was playing in the streets of Japan and some team is handing him over 100+ million dollars. Due to many years of success, he was making millions a year playing for the Rakuten Golden Eagles in a professional baseball league. To think that a team from MLB should be able to simply draft a guy making millions on a contract is absurd. He played for 7 years and is just now being "let go" by the Golden Eagles after his contract is up. They offered him 8 to 10 million PER-YEAR to stay with the Golden Eagles. Do you expect him to sign for $250,000 a year with a MLB team and work his way up the system? Why would ANYONE do something so stupid. lol Come on now.

so they can prove themselves against the BEST in the world. You want to be considered the best you have to play against the best. Nobody ever strives to be mediocre. Or at least they shouldn't if they value themselves

The guy is 25 and has been playing professional baseball since 2007. That's 7 years in the top Japanese league. If you think he should be paid like an 18-21 year-old draftee, I don't know what else to tell you.
That's how I see it too.
Tanaka should be considered as a Free Agent, not a rookie, comparable to 20 year olds in AA.
Tanaka is the best pither in Japan, not just a prospect.
MLB only signs the best of the best from Japan.
That's why most of the players who have signed huge contracts, like Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, Hideo Nomo, Daisuke Matsusaka, Yu Darvish and several of the great Japanese relievers over the years have had an immediate impact in America.
They're worth the risk because they're Japan's top superstars.

Jury is still out on Darvish.

And the only other name I know is Hideo Nomo on your list.

If you have never heard of Uehara, I have no idea why you are on a baseball card message board. He recently made the last out of the World Series for the Red Sox after having one of the best seasons for a relief pitcher in baseball history.

Yeah, I just didn't know how to pronounce it until you just said that. I didn't watch the last out of the World Series for the record, lol.
