Thoughts on Starlin Castro

As we get closer to ST, I can't wait, I thought some prospect chatter would be good. No need for me to talk about my sig people so what about Starlin Castro. He is rated in the top 3 of most list and being in the Cubs system adds to his potential elevation to The Show in a year or two. He is only 19, soon to be 20 in march and already has a couple of professional league seasons under his belt. What is his ceiling?

His ceiling is probably Roberto Alomar-like, but at SS. Not the likely outcome, but that's probably his reasonable ceiling.

Just don't see anything too special about the kid. Too much hype and not enough production. Just like F-Mart. Hopefully his defense is better than his offense.

His stuff has been selling consistently for the last month.....a real spike took place the 2nd week of Nov for some reason.


Any news on a chrome auto card anytime soon? Or in another product for that matter.

It reminds me a bit like Tommy Hanson.....he had one card for the longest time.

The spike was due to his performance in the Arizona Fall League.

I dont think he has a future in the middle of the infield. I think he is alot slower than i first thought. Like the other guy said, way to much hype with him for me to put money in.

Well, I said that's his ceiling, not the realistic outcome, but I'd be pretty suprised if he wasn't better than Theriot on offense and defense.

Conservatively, Edgar Renteria is his ceiling, which is pretty good.

From overhearing a fan in the AFL, I've heard a random comparison to Elvis Andrus, where Castro could be a fast tracked to the Major Leagues except Castro will actually hit a little better than Andrus will.

A top 3 prospect? No way. He's the Cubs' best prospect though. He's a bit overrated right now, he just got an insane amount of hype in the AFL. Good prospect, but overrated and still has plenty to work on. And there's a decent chance that he outgrows shortstop too. I'm sure at least 95% of the board had never heard of him until the AFL.

Now just for ST to get closer. He is actually playing currently in the VEN Winter league. I will keep up with him and Ramos since they still have stats coming in.

I dropped $150 on him. 4 Refractors @60 dlvd and 2 Blue REF @90 dlvd.
