Pretty nice mailweek for only $61. ;) I have been finding some good deals lately while waiting for a low grade Tris Speaker T3 to show up. :)

First up, a huge shoutout to Graig (MantMaris)....he asked for my addy saying he had a Doerr auto he wanted to send my way and in my mailbox came this beaut:

#/250 :D

I guess there are some "alright" Yankee fans in this country. ;) 8-) Thanks again Graig!!!

Next up is a card I have wanted for a while, and got outbid a couple times on ebay a while back. Not in the greatest shape but it only cost me $25dlvd. :) (Courtesy of JohnnyHarmonica @ Net54)

:)

Goes REALLY nicely with this Lord M116 I have!

And last but not least..... one of the cards on my Top 3 Most Needed Vintage Cards:

1951 Topps Blue Back Bobby Doerr

Big thanks to Talmer (birdsfan85) for helping me snag that one off ebay. I now only need 2 cards to complete my Doerr vintage run, 1941 Double Play and 1938 Goudey Heads Up #258 (blank background).

Seeings how I haven't in a while.....here is my Bobby Doerr vintage PC, nearly all PSA slabbed.

(Also have 2 1939 Play Balls not scanned full size)

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think! :)

Thanks James! The Goudeys are VERY expensive!! To make matters worse they never come up for auction, and even if I can find one on a website it's always $200+. :| Thankfully the one I have I ended up buying raw a couple years back for I believe $80dlvd. The #258 blank backgound seems to be less available than the one I have, which sucks. As much as I would like to consider the vintage run complete without the #258, I don't think I can. I will be patient though, and hopefully a low grade one show up along with the 41 Double Play w/ Cronin. I'm in no rush. :) I will also keep an eye out for a Goudey Heads Up for your collection, too.

Thanks Darren, Eric, and Chris!

Funny you say that, Eric....I am terrible at starting sets and whatnot that I NEVER end up finishing :::sigh:::. I have done quite well on my Doerr run though, and surprisingly will be the first set/run I finish. I will just have to send the last few to PSA to make it official. ;)

Great mailweek, Scott! The '36 Goudey auto is a beauty. Good luck with the final two!

I started out collecting autographs of Hall of Famers on cards. As I reached the end of that quest I needed something to keep me busy so I dove into HOF gameused cards. Then I reached the end of that quest. I started collecting HOF autographed baseballs. As these cost quite a bit more I sold off most of my gameused cards to support the ball project. Now I have every living HOFer and most of the big deceased HOFers (as well as Frick Award winners etc) on baseballs I am nearing the end of the road. I always keep an eye out in hopes a rare HOFer auto basebll shows up.

Sooooooo now Scotty keeps posting these beautiful vintage cards. Always loved the look and history of them. I feel like I am getting the bug..... maybe a new direction?

You vinatge guys are KILLING me! ::facepalm::

WELL Joe you did say that you were nearing the end of the road on that project so..... ;)

The bug is not 100% there until you get your first one in the mail. Here is my first prewar vintage card, and still one of my favorites:

Although I really do love your HOF auto baseball collection, I think those are awesome. I have a couple Doerrs myself but noone else noteworthy. If you do decide to start a HOF vintage collection then feel free to shoot me a pm and I will get you headed in the right direction. I wouldn't mind another vintage collector on these boards. ;)

Zan - Thanks Brian, I knew as a fellow vintage player collector you might appreciate those. ;) Maybe we will finish our vintage runs at the same time? (Especially at my pace  )

bigpapiMA32 - Thanks! The M116 set is a great set indeed....I made the mistake of attempting the M116 Red Sox team set and ended up getting 7 of them out of 20, but now they rarely show up. Here is a link to my Red Sox vintage PC, it has all 7 of them in it [pages 2/3] :

(The McConnell from that set is insanely colorful)

jay1065 - Thanks Jay! I love his 36 Goudey, the batting pose of an 18 year old future HOF about to hit a home run. ;) The sig adds a lot to it, especially with the inscription.

pghbuccos - Thanks Dave, hopefully the last two I need will eventually come up for auction in low[er] grade form....don't think I will be able to afford either even in mid grade shape.

MantMaris - Heh, you got that right! Thanks again :D

JackLondon - Thanks Andrew!

I have a couple of the Bond Bread issues if youre interested.

1947d305doerr.jpg

This is the 1947 D305 (only diecut round corner cards are from 1947)

1947w571exhibitdoerr.jpg

this is the 1947 W571-2 Exhibit size (rare)

SGC will grade both, PSA is uneducated on both of these issues

Yeah, I saw them on your website....I have an 80's? RP with square corners and whatnot, but I don't think I can justify paying $20+ for an authentic one. I am not saying your price is high or anything, it's just that I don't really care for the card itself. How were the W571-2s distributed?

EDIT: Here is a poor scan of my Bond Bread RP

Very nice Doerr collection you have there Scott.

I have been contemplating whether or not to get Musial's cards from his playing days. This newer stuff of a vintage player isnt for me anymore, that is why I have sold off the majority of my Musial collection and have been pumping it into the Cuddyer collection.

I have 5 Musial vintage cards, of which 3 are signed, so I guess I have a decent start to the potential collection. Your post above may have just convinced me to go for it. :)

Thanks a lot, Chris!
I would say 100% go for it! It is fun tracking down all the cards and they look great next to each other....if you have the funds then definitely attempt Musials vintage run. He has more cards to track down and some would be pricey/hard to find but that's the fun of it. :) Best of luck!!

Just looked at the Beckett Checklist, including regional issues, there are about 80 from his playing days. Looking at the list, I remember one more I have, so 7/80 to start off, almost 10% out of the gate, I guess not too shabby. I know it will be spendy and will take probably a lifetime, but what the hell, gives me something to do in my spare time.
