Calm down, Leopold. This is old news.

Tristar had a bunch of people obtain the autographs in-person at games and what not and then they put these in cards.

Well, it's a trap auto, not an on card auto, so wouldn't that mean that they probably got the auto before the deal was signed?

Bowman can take trapped autos of Beckham if they really wanted to and put the index cut on cards. No matter how exclusive they are, there are ways around it as shown here. :?

I'm sorry if I asked a question that has already been asked

I haven't been on for awhile and after searching the last 30-40 pages and not findning any info I just asked....my bad

I just thought no other card companies could produce a card with an auto of him if Razor had the exclusive rights ...

thanks anyway

He's not allowed to sign for other companies but they can obtain autos and cut them up for their product.

here is the run down

Tristar has a licensing deal with minor league baseball. Tristar has image rights to every player in the minors. Tristar obtained index cards of Tim Beckham, cut them up and since they were able to use his image, they were able to do this. Topps, Upperdeck, Donruss, could not do this, because they do not have image rights. There are other razor exclusives in the tristar product that were obtained in similar ways. There are like 5 Brett Wallace autographs in the entire product.

I will be totally honest...I think that card looks nicer than Razor's.

I get that it isn't on-card, which is a drag, but it just looks better to me.

I think the Tristar is a nicer looking card, but all indications with the Razor product was that it was a total "rush job".

I'll be more curious to see their 2009 releases. Right now, nothing has impressed me design-wise, and frankly, Donruss designs are great for Donruss.

Out of curiosity... Can Topps/UD/whomever make a card with a trapped auto from an index card and make it without his picture on it? It would be one UGLY card, but maybe it could be done. Not trying to start anything - and I hope this doesn't get turned into one of those discussions.

Thanks

Topps and UD play by different rules. Topps has to get individual contracts with every player they make a card of. They have a MLB license, and as far as I know are not licensed by the MLBPA like UD is. UD should be able to make a base card, but will have to get contracts for autographs. Razor can prevent things like this from happening by telling players they have under exclusive contracts not to sign blanks. This would be particularly important on players like Matt Wieters who is signed a year past the date he makes the 25 man roster.

I agree, if I can find one with the index card cut to fit the window i'll have to snag it.
