Welcome to the club.
Lol, I was kinda surprised that the vote was so close. I figured it'd be 9 out of 10 ppl on here have at least tried weed. Shows how far off I was

As with any poll like this, the "yes" vote is typically higher than reported since many are afraid to admit to such activities for fear of reprisals from The Man.

I've never touched any drugs, don't drink either, but everyone around me did.
At least I'm not alone in the world, lol.

Nope, not alone. I did get drunk once on New Years of my senior year and I got a bit of a contact high walking back to lunch freshman or sophmore year, as I was walking behind two guys sharing a blunt on a windy day. That one time I got drunk, I was fine till late the next morning, then just got sick as a dog and stayed that way for the whole weekend. I was like, oh, yeah, this is why I never did that. :)

While marijuana isn't addictive, it does screw people up more than most think. My cousin and nephew are proof of that. They both sound like brain-dead retards even when they aren't high, lost/killed way too many brain cells. Do whatever you want but to say marijuana is harmless is just idiotic.

I'm really genuinely suprised by how many people have never smoked before on this board. I would've thought that it would be along the lines of an 80-20 split, not 55-45. I'm suprised to say the least.

Funny how most in hear are fine with it, but everyone that cracks on the steriod users always throw out the "breaking the law" card! Funny!

Because steroid use gives them an unfair advantage in competition. Marijuana doesn't. It's really simple to distinguish the difference if you just think for 2 seconds.

That is changing the argument! Working out and lifting give you an advantage too! I always say the steriod users should not be punished because there was no penalty in baseball for using back then. Then I always get hit with the illegal argument! Funny how people twist the argument when they are defending a player THEY like!

I never agree with you, but you are right. If this was A-Rod or Bonds people would be crucifying them.

When weed starts to improve your physique and gives you an edge, I'll view it as negatively as I do steroids.

Don't really care if he was smoking weed. Do care if he was driving while high.

You are missing the point.

There are many things that are performance enhancing. Let's start with water. A severely dehydrated player would definitely not perform at peak level. You can throw protein powder, watching tapes, lifting weights, etc. into the mix.

So, how do we decide what is acceptable for an athlete to use?

1) Whether it's illegal or not. If it's illegal, an athlete shouldn't use it.
2) Whether the MLB has a strict policy against it or not.

#2 was missing for the 1990's and the early part of the 2000's as evidenced by the fact there were no baseball sanctions in place against steroid use. So, the argument people used to nail guys like Bonds and other early users of steroids was the fact they were doing something illegal. And, as I noted at the time, if you want to attack players using that argument, that's fine. But, that means we should bring the hammer down on players who do anything illegal, like Lincecum in this case. That is what bodiaz is getting at.

I see the difference as:
Steroids- They are not used as a recreational drug. They are utilized to cheat to gain an extra advantage.
Weed- This is NOT used to cheat in baseball. It is a recreational drug, and there isn't more to it.
It might be illegal, but it's not like he is a cheater like a steroid user is.

Who cares if he smokes pot? I agree that he shouldn't be driving while he's high, but I don't care at all if Tm Lincecum wants to smoke some pot.

I don't know why this has to be brought up to the same people all the time, but steroids were banned by Commissioner Faye Vincent in 1991. There was no testing policy or punishments lined out because the Player's Union fought them over it. So there's no need to use the argument about steroids being illegal or not because they were banned in 1991.

I still am yet to understand why Lasik eye surgery is ignored and not even thought of as a performance enhancer, yet steroids are vilified. You still have to do some serious lifting even if you take steroids. Lasik surgery gives a player more of an advantage than steroids.

Also, to say that "steroids" were illegal in the 1990s, or even now is questionable

Anyone even remotely trying to compare weed to steroids, in terms of cheating, is a complete moron. And, they've apparently never had the pleasure of smoking a good joint ;) ( I don't, but would never lie and say I didn't back in the day).

And Lasik gives a player an advantage? Please. Are people really this stupid? Listen Jeffro, glasses correct your vision to a well as it can be. Lasik corrects your vision so that you no longer need glasses. Plain and simple. Players have been wearing glasses for ages. Contacts for decades. And now Lasik is available. If you are even trying to say that a player who gets corrective eye surgery is cheating you really should just stop while you're ahead.
