So I have been thinking about popping the question to my gf of 6 years. Yeah i know it has been a while and probably should have already but I just wasn't ready. Now my gf knows how much I like my cards and I think she would love it if i sold some cards to put towards the expenses for a wedding. You know, sacrafice my stuff to give her the "Dream Wedding" before it becomes her stuff anyway :D So I'm thinking of letting the Brett Anderson collection go and I want honest opinions on what you guys think I could get for it. After the injury his cards really dropped hard but I do feel I own the highest percentage of his RC's and hope that will help. I also still believe that he has Cy Young potential and with a little run support could be a perennial all-star. Anyway have a look and you be the judge. Thanks in advance for any help.

Holy moly... If I am you, I would wait til he gets better and pitch better in next season. You would get more $$$, but I am happy for you if you are going to propose.

Stellar collection and an admirable decision to make (both proposing and selling off some cards to help with the Dream Wedding). Good luck to you, I wish you were able to sell these off when he was flying high instead of recovering from injury, but such is life.

I sold off some of my Bagwell collection long ago to help pay for our wedding/ring, and boy do I regret it. Sure, I can find cards I sold off these days for much cheaper, but some cards I cannot find anywhere.

I say only sell off your collection if you NEVER plan on starting that collection again.

And congrats in advance!

this might the possible worst time to be selling cards of people that are not playing.

no need to get into how dumb it is to get married.

Good thing you didn't get into it...oh wait. Broad strokes like that are ridiculous.

I agree on the timing to sell. Do you have anything else that you could sell now? I would wait until at least ST to start selling the Andersons. I listed a 07 BDP gold refractor about a month ago for $39.99 and it didn't sell.

Good luck with whatever you decide to sell and I'm sure your soon to be fiance will appreciate what you're doing.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah Anderson was my 1st big prospecting venture but became attached so I just kept hoarding instead of selling. I don't really buy anything of his unless it is low #ed. I am ok with selling the Andersons because I will always have my Adenhart collection. Maybe I should wait. I like to think she won't rush and set a date too soon but you never know.

You're a regular Debby Downer. Geez.

Those of us that value relationships with human beings more than baseball cards wouldn't find anything wrong with your decision making here or your priorities.

Too early to sell the Andersons IMO. His upside is too high to sell them now...

But if the "dream wedding" is after mid-2013, then go for it then!

i feel 4 ya
i was with my wife for almost 5 years before i asked her to marry me. she asked me after the first year together. i told her no for ONE big reason. i had previous debt and i would not get married until that was COMPLETELY paid off. i paid it off through saving, extra work etc. but i did not sell one card and would never sell a card for that reason or for getting married. when i got out of debt christmas 08 (my 4k bonus finished it off), i asked her on new years eve and we got married 8 months later. another bonus and good decisions paid for it. man she got lucky because if it would have come to selling cards to get it done it wasn't going to happen
anyway
dont take the easy way out unless you absolutely have to :D

What is wrong with getting married?

Elighten me.

There's no need for it. it's a piece of paper. people can live together without spending lots of money on a wedding.

sure there are some people that are into all that, but there are others that arent

I'm married and have a daughter, but I respect Eric's opinion, and his right to have it.

I have plenty of friends who are neither married, nor do they ever plan to be.

Why does everyone get in such a effing twist here when someone has an OPINION about something?

Does Eric's view on marriage affect your life in some way?

Anyway...back to the post topic. I think if you are going to sell, you should wait till his prices come back around a bit,
and if you are having a "dream wedding", she's going to need at least a year to plan anyway.

Even if you do want to get married, you don't have to spend $50,000 doing it.

The best weddings I've ever been to cost less than a grand.

No idea what your collection is worth but I sold a couple grand worth of Andruw stuff to pay for a wedding and a down-payment on a house. We had been together 5 years. Honestly I only remember a few cards I sold and don't regret it one bit.

To clarify my wedding cost though, it was like 100 for justice of the piece and food.

Agreed, and so is a college degree, some people value it more than others. I for one would not have a child out of wedlock, but I know, that's me.
