Rod Allen just said it best- it's refreshing to have a guy like Valverde come in and pound the strike zone.

I hated Rodney. His numbers may have looked good but about 75% of his saves were completed with the tying run on base. I'd rather have a guy like Valverde who comes in and slams the door shut in the 9th.

Valverde is such a character. I love watching him, but I can't imagine the opposing fans like seeing what he does. But like Rod Allen says, "if you don't like it, do something about it". Not many have had any success off him, he's been unreal.

Someone needs to start a blog/site about the Rodisms-the stupid things Rod Allen says. It'd be like all the crazy Yogi Berra quotes, except no one knows Rod Allen because he was never a good player. Man, he says some crap that he honestly has nothing to back it up. It's entertaining to listen to him, because most of what he says is seriously made up.

Zumaya must be seriously hurt. He is a tough kid, and he was in some severe pain judging by his reaction. Feel bad for the guy, this season was finally going without injury.

A tribute to Rod Allen. I'm not a fan of Rod but he is light years ahead of Kirk Gibson as an announcer.

When is the last time the Tigers had a closer that could come into the game in the 9th inning and you knew the game was over? I think you have to go back to 1984.

Valverde is reminding me of Gagne before he got hurt.

Mario Impemba(Tigers announcer), I don't typically like-but he made a great point. So far, Mauer is having a "down year", using his prior seasons as a measuring stick. Pretty nice to hit .300 during a "down year", though.

Got to get this thread on the first page where it belongs.

The Tigers are playing horrible defense tonight. That doggone Guillen just kills the Tigers when he is on the field.

I see Magglio is putting on another stellar defensive performance as well. He looks like a 10 year old out in right field tonight.

I made mention last night of how I can't stand Leyland, and this is exactly why. You can't have BOTH Guillen and Ordonez in the field at the same time. They are both poor defenders, and having both of them almost assures a booted ball, misplayed ball, etc. Ordonez has twice let balls off the wall past him after hitting the wall, and Guillen is just horrible anywhere he plays in the field. One of them has to DH-it's pretty simple.

And what on earth is Fu-Te Ni doing pitching to Cuddyer? Cuddyer has hit the ball on the screws most of the series so far, so you are going to ask Ni to get him out? Come on, Jim. It's surprising, because Leyland is the king of righty-righty or lefty-lefty matchups, yet he pitches the soft tossing Ni against Cuddyer, in a 5-3 game.

One thing I always know going into a Twins and Tigers series-we are ALWAYS going to be out-managed. Every single time, because Gardenhire is that much of a better manager.

Last-Galarraga will be in the bullpen/AAA if Porcello gets right, and Oliver stays in the rotation. To the national audience, people think he's great because of the 28 out perfect game. But he got very lucky that night, and his stuff just isn't consistent enough to pitch on a good team, IMO.

Not surprised to see the Twins bring the big bats to the table today.

Instead of dilly dallying with the Twins and his teammates during BP, maybe Maggs should be out there taking baseballs off the RF wall. That is what good defenders do in new parks. He looks absolutely lost out there.

Back in first place!

Was out at a bonfire with friends this evening, so I didn't see a single inning. What a night for Span! Guess those eTopps autos will sell out now! And Thome with another dinger. Most importantly for the Twins, Blackburn went 7 innings. Wasn't pretty, but it's big to give the bullpen more rest. Let's take the series tomorrow!

  I just picked up an auto too before I went to the game. It was really something. I wasn't expecting much at all with Blackburn on the mound but I suppose he did enough to get us the win. I still wish the Twins do whatever it takes (Slowey, Ramos, Prospect, etc...) to get Cliff Lee. With a big 3 of Lee, Pavano, and Liriano I think the Twins could actually win a postseason game haha. Of course we will have to get there first..

Sure was. Thome has really been all or nothing this year. Big hit or strikeout. Nothing in between (sacrifice fly, seeing-eye single) I love having him on the team (so glad I got him on a ball at the Autograph party a couple weeks back) but wish he was more dependable. He's not the same Thome that used to beat the crap out of Twins pitching in the Dome.
