"No Turning Back
At 21, Aroldis Chapman's dreams can be as simple as coveting an iPhone or as complex as picturing himself as a big league star. The Cuban defector's story is as riveting as his 100 mph arm."

Outside of our world of collectors, it looks like this could lead to some spikes in pricing, with national attention.

Unless you bought in at the cheap prices before he defected and can quadruple your money now. Even then, his prices are going to go up once he signs, especially if its one of the big teams.. Most people still have no idea who he is. I sold a few off already because it was too much easy profit to pass up right now for me. I'm still looking to buy some though.

If you pulled a good one, and so have relatively little into it, I'd say sure. If you have been buying, wait at the very least until he actually signs with a team. That will bring the real hype and higher prices.

Can he sign at any time?

No, he has to establish residency in another country first or something like that. He's still at least a few months away from being able to sign.

I am still kicking myself for not picking up 1 of the 2 red refractors or the super that Wossa gobbled up. He was the only guy besides Teheran that I had targeted in 2009 Bowman. I think it's funny that if you see his name mentioned on any board, you see the prices jump up on ebay.

Sweet card. I love action shots on rookie cards. Is that at BGS?

No, but it probably will be in my next shipment.

21. Someone made up a rumor that he was 26, there is zero basis for it.

Considering that so many Latin American players lie about their age, I can understand why some teams who are looking to sign him for big $ would question how old he is.

I picked up an orange refractor for $80.00 earlier this year and sold it for $225 after it was announced that he defected. That card could sell for more if he is signed by a team like the Red Sox or Yankees but I was content with a $150 profit especially if he ends up being older than advertised.

That's the thing though, he's Cuban. The Cuban National team reports his age as 21 and they would have no incentive to claim he is younger than he actually is. If anything, they would want to make him appear older since that would make him less attractive to MLB teams and thus less likely to defect.

I think the whole question of his age was created by some moron journalist, like most mlb trade rumors that have zero basis in fact. I don't think the questioning is coming from MLB teams, they know how old he actually is.
