just reading up on him, and saw some info. i'm shocked after seeing his stats that he isn't in the HOF.

1. should this guy be in the HOF? with a 288-231, with a 3.34 ERA?
2. is he still on the ballot? (i'm sure it's not, more of a question of what does it take to stay on the ballot for the next year)

Unfortunately last year was his last year on the ballot. He didn't have enough support to get in. I guess it's up to the Veteran's Committee in a few years.

Tommy john is the poster boy of why stats without substance mean nothing. He was a average at best pitcher 23 of the 26 years he pitched. Only was a AS for 3 or 4 times, a serious candidate for CY for 2 or 3 time but never won a single one. Bottom line with Tommy is that he is the definition of a compiler. And further proof that stats are meaningless without context like accomplishment and glory.

In no way should Tommy john even be mentioned in a HOF discussion.

What about him was "above average"? Aside for longevity...?

I consider average around 3.80 and about 10 wins a year
I by no means meant great when I said above average
