Too funny...someone told potential buyer I'M A TRIMMER - LOL

So I have this buyer interested in one of my cards. He says his only concern is, "Also, I think I bought something from you awhile back which I'm happy with but some guy says you have a reputation as a "Trimmer" I told him seemed like a lot of trouble and if you were you must be really good at it".

WHAT A FRACKING JOKE! I don't trim, don't know how to trim, and am quite offended. I told him that if anything ever arrived trimmed to one of my buyers, the buyer should contact me ASAP so that I can locate the guy I bought the card from. It feels bad inside that some people would even consider me a trimmed like other shoeless members.

Interested buyer just said that another seller said that to him about me because we were both selling the same card and his was priced 2x as much.

"I think he was just "pissed off" cuz I told him you had a card he was selling for about 1/2 his asking price. He was also wanting $75 for his /25 Carp and came down to $60."

Honestly...there are very few people in this hobby percentage wise that even know how to spot trimming.In fact I'd say that about 85% of the whole hobby world has no clue about it whatsoever in the first place.And depending on the kind of cards you buy and the circles you run in...there are a lot of folks who will go to the grave never knowing a thing about it.

Nope.I think a lot of people here underestimate how many people are as knowledgeable as this board.Ever try walking into a card shop and asking people about it?Blank stares all around.I'd say, even though it was around way before grading, that most people who don't do grading don't even know about it.Trust me...you'd be surprised what people don't know and how much they will spend not knowing anything about the crap that's out there.Its downright sad.

I think people are better at spotting trimmings than they are are spotting miscuts that they lable as trimmings.

Most people on the old BMB and the FCB are simply parrots....they repeat what they read and act as if it is first-hand knowledge. It always comes back to trimming and a certain ebay member. First, it is not economically viable to trim every card. Second, with the amount of volume the seller has there is no reason to trim every card....a percentage of cards are gem mint by default.

Finally....there are countless other techniques to restore cards such as recoloring, soaking and ironing out surface wrinkles (pre-grading) that never get discussed. Why? Simple, the majority of our membership didn't read a thread on these "restoration" techniques last week.

I would assume that's because the majority discussion on this board is modern cards. Most condition issues in cards from the last 20 years are going to be corners, edges and centering, all of which would be altered with trimming. Besides, you can't exactly spoon out a wrinkle on a chrome card.

From time to time I line up my Chrome Refractors in 10-20 card stacks. Granted these aren't cheapy cards. But the ones I use for "the standard" come from cheapy refs I've pulled in the past (using the same year and product is a must). I do notice some cards that I've purchased on eBay a tad thinner or shorter. It does make me wonder who is originally the source of all this. So I keep a list of these characters. Sometimes its not the seller's fault because he/she may have bought it from the original trimmer. Anyhow, thanks for the support and especially to Rob (xxgreatdealzxx).

BTW Rob, I just opened up my first eBay store. Makes life a lot easier and I can spend more time with the family.

Sorry to hear that dude. Ironically, almost the exact same thing happened to me. I sold a card, the guy was a nutcase and had buyers remorse and said I trimmed it to get a refund. I took it back, sold it to someone else, who then left feedback and said the card was perfect. Then the original nutjob emailed the second buyer saying it was trimmed!!! WTF!

Perhaps.All I know is you can go into a lot of places and people have no idea what you are talking about and the ones that do are not too savvy about spotting it.I have spoken to a few people in person that were aware of it and I have also heard that with some vintage cards you could press them and enlarge them just a little(if pressed hard enough ...similiar to putting a coin on the railroad tracks) and then cut the small excess borders off and then you have a nicely centered card that can meet measurements and whatnot.I have never done this and have no idea how the hell it could be done without somehow ruining the card but a fella I know that runs a shop assured me he had seen it done a lot back before grading was a big hit.I guess the only way to tell is the borders will be thinner and the image will just eb slightly bigger than the normal copies of said card.Not sure I have ever run across one.


All I know is this board seems to have a lot of knowledge on it but I also know that knowledge is not necessarily shared hobby wide.That's also why you have people buying fake buybacks and fake patch cards and pre-cracked graded cards that the cases have been glued back together on.And I can't imagine these folks don't want to know they are doing wrong.I suppose they just have never had the notion to check and see if there indeed were ways to con people.You see it all the time and its sad.
