watching the unc/duke bball game, i got to thinking of big games every years. my list

Sox/yanks
duke/unc bball
navy/army football

Bears-Packers is the NFL top-dog based on history alone.

But I'll thank the OP for being very wise and knowing that Army-Navy game is the purest rivalry in all of sports. No one game has a bigger connection for the fans/players/alumni. They may not be the best teams each year, but the quest for the Commander in Chief's Trophy means more than most other trophys.

Also, this game is so important that it used to be honored as the last Div. 1-A played each year (until NCAA got greedy and added the 12th game). But starting next year, it'll be played on the 2nd Saturday in December, reclaiming the old honor.

Yeah, some of the "rivalries" are just too forced - one year the Sox had the Phillies for that weekend. When the hell was that ever a rivalry?

Ohio State/Michigan might be the biggest rivalry in ALL of sports.

Auburn/Bama is up there too.

there are many big rivalries in college football, but many of these teams in those rivalries are not good. harvard/yale is a big one
