Topps Appreciation Thread

After seeing basically every other thread here bashing topps its nice to see this. I love Topps. Sure they have there faults but they are such a huge company. when i request a card sent i always get it withing 3-7 days.
Lets not forget the tuns of cool free complete sets they sent out in 2011 the diamond collection. When it came to replaceing a redemption they took great care of me..
Yes they have made me mad from time to time but UD is MUCH worse LOL.

I have always been a set collector and my main focus is a Topps run, currently complete from 1971 through 2013. The last few years I buy the complete series as they become available and spend more money on the vintage sets. I did put together a complete 2003 T205 relic and auto set a few years back. I don't buy many packs anymore, but Topps is stilly favorite by far!

I do their flagship base set and a good portion of the base sets from other topps products as well as buy singles. But I don't normally bust much wax anymore. Just can't justify the cost.

I have been working on every topps basic set card of all the Phillies. (traded too) from 1970 to now. All i need is a few years in early 70's. I even do the rookie and team and combo pics cards too...

While not someone who assembles Topps sets for the current year I am working on sets from when I collected as a child which would have been 1972 to 1977. Lets just put aside the fact that there was only one set to collect back then, I have been and will be a loyal Topps person for vintage sports cards. For current cards, I just cannot get into anything that is unlicensed but if a nice product is put out for me to buy I would certainly consider it. Since Topps is basically the only licensed product at this time I tend to like most of what they do. They certainly have their issues but any company who does something for 60 years and survives, well you have to admire them.

Wow this is great! I'm darn close to redeeming my Koufax Clear RC Auto just to put it on here! I love Topps, without them I'd have to get a real job! ;-)

They do base sets nicely. Some of their high-end looks great. But I think the company is spiraling down the drain. Customer service and redemptions are horrible. Their designs are lackluster and too heavily rely on old designs (A&G, Heritage, Fan Favorites, etc.) Their player selection is always the same for their retired players. Really, the company just feels OLD, and lack of competition is only hurting the problem as they aren't trying very hard to be innovative. I grew up on Topps, and I really want to feel the love I used to, but I don't anymore. And that sucks for me because I also hate unlicensed no logo cards. So basically there's nothing left for me these days except vintage and pre-2005 modern.

While I do agree topps does some really nice stuff and creates THE base set to have, I think where a lot of folks have issues is with the redemptions and costs of product versus return. Common knowledge I know but it seems when people speak of topps and their failings(including me), they forget to specify that these two things are really their only down falls. Which is why, if they decided to fix these issues, I think topps would have a better reputation.
