I open MAYBE a box or two of topps products a year (and it's usually only
Bowman sterling).

Leaf gets most of my money for boxes due to quality, cost, service and amount of low numbered autos per box.

I didn't see where anyone asked the year of the product. Harper is new enough, but most redemptions have a couple years before they expire.

I think if Topps wanted to try to do something for a holder of an expired reception, it would be a great gesture, otherwise they have no responsibility to honor it if it expired. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just waiting for a big helping of disappointment.

And I believe they are the only trading card manufacturer whose redemptions never expire!

I'd bet it was a 2011 product with a 3 year window on the redemption....on another site they were selling 2011 draft at reduced prices for the black Friday weekend, well the Jose Fernandez auto's were also redemptions expiring 11/30/2014...probably same release , but can't say for sure since Harper seemed to be in every Topps release that year....

The thing is, the cards don't expire. That Harper auto is sitting in a box somewhere in New Jersey. What did they do, just throw it out on December 1? No. Are they going to throw it out? No. Are they going to give it to charity? No. The best thing to do, other than not have redemptions, is to try to honor it until the card is demonstrably not available. Maybe they do have a finite amount of storage space for all their millions of unfulfilled redemptions, and occasionally they go through and purge whatever is very old. But to just flatly say "no dice" a week past the date is a second insult to the paying customer.

You know you're talking about Topps, right? The card likely wasn't made.

Why would Topps waste Bryce Harper stickers on cards that might never be redeemed? If a non-expired redemption comes in, slap the sticker on the card and ship it out.

If the redemption deadline passes, Topps has Harper stickers to use for other products and can throw away or backdoor the blank cards that were waiting for stickers to be applied.

I thought I heard Panini honored all redemptions

I'm almost entirely positive it's Leaf. It would make no sense to be Panini whose redemptions never expire because they are starting their points system in baseball in the not too distant future so there won't be redemptions.

What a relief.
Agreed. Easily the most obnoxious poster since the dear departed PoseyBuster.

I wouldn't expect a company to redeem an expired redemption, but it probably would have been a nice gesture for Toops to do something. Me, I would have written a nicely-worded email/letter acknowledging the expired redemption and asked for a little grace

Edit: i just removed the OP from ignore list (formerly population 1) so I could read his rant. So someone else pulled this redemption and because of that the OP decides on the measured response of posting a dramatic "I'm quitting baseball cards and leaving the boards" thread? Really?

Hey, DA. I can see your lady bits from here.

my question - are they in south carolina or south florida ?

actually i'm surprised he lasted this long.....i kinda figured his thread a few days ago would get him booted.....not sure if it's still open or not , but he posted asking if "ya'll guys" were keeping up with the jason mars-fake wagner junk on facebook.....i had definitely not been following it (and honestly i'd totally forgotten the name of the guy involved) but because of DA's post i went to see it.....didn't read much , 80% of the posts i DID see were either mars swearing it was real and DA backing him up , mostly by seriously trashing the members (many by name) of most every other message board that hadn't already booted him...

I read the original thread that David Anthony got all worked up about over on Blowout (he can't respond to it there since he's banned so that's why he created the post here). You're completely correct, it was 2011 Bowman Draft. Blowout reduced the price on the boxes because the redemptions were expiring, and lo and behold the guy pulled an expired redemption. Sorry dude can't have it both ways, you got the boxes cheap because of the chance exactly that would happen. Topps has a hard deadline on their redemptions and it'd be nice if they bent the rules, but I wouldn't expect them to and the 3-year window they give seems reasonable.

I pulled a redemption in Presitge Football earlier this year that expired roughly 30 days prior to pulling it. I figured what the heck, enter it online and see what happens. I received it without any issues. Was nobody major but still cool I got it
