Normally when people use a generalization, it's because they can't think of a specific case that matches 100%
Thanks for the education on the meaning of a generalization, however I feel your generalization or lack of wasn't because you couldn't find an exact match yet that you are talking out your ass.

All the NSC people are doing is taking the #1/999 card that they are "Given" by Topps and selling it. They receive these cards (999 sets to be exact) to give as they see fit during the convention. They have taken the most valuable free card and turned it into charity. On what planet is that a bad thing?

On a planet where someone is looking for a conspiracy where none exists.

As you can probably imagine, I hate this as well.

100% of the proceeds will be donated to Juvenile Diabetes.

I have Juvenile Diabetes (insulin dependent) and have had it for 28 years. In effect, the proceeds go to help at least one, if not more, of your fellow FCB members.

No need to get hostile. I never insulted you, or called you anything, or said anything cross to you at all. This is why I have been a lurker all this time, because I see this happen all the time. People just can't handle other people seeing things differently than them.

Not being hostile, just explaining to you with text on how I understand what a generalization is. For one most of the time no one gives a crap about these give aways, and the promoter appears to be doing something good. And as being a lurker you should understand better than anyone that you are acting a bit crazy.

While I am about to exaggerate a bit you should still get my point. There is an auction where all the proceeds go to charity and you just ran into a press conference complaining about the sale. You would think this is a normal activity ?

No, because this is worlds from being a press confrence. This is a message board where discussions about related topics happen.

Let's wait until we see multiples of the same serial number before we start assuming that the number of 999 is any larger.

If they really wanna donate to charity, just donate to charity. It's really simple, pull out your checkbook and start writing. It's not that this isn't a worthy cause and that this won't do some small amount of good. It's an indication that the Strasburg might not be all it's cracked up to be. I wouldn't be suprised to see people with stacks of 20 at the show.

And so what if there are people with stacks of 20 at the show?

Who's to say that they didn't purchase them from show visitors who wanted to cash in?

My son who is now eight years old has Juvenile Diabetes and has had it since he turned two. So for six years now he has his finger pricked to test his BG and has at LEAST four insulin shots a day. And as a parent of someone with this disease anymore knowledge or anyway to get the word out on this disease is a good thing!!

I think it's safe to say that being the first one listed, being serial numbered 001/999, and having all proceeds go to charity will make this sale by far the largest of any of these.

But once more of these hit eBay, how much do you think they sell for?

I'm done collecting Strasburg.

I know this is #'d 1/999 and I know it's for charity, but the price is ludricrous. Same with the price of the AS Fanfest card. Same with the A&G mini. Same with the MCG base Topps and the factory set exclusive #661.

It's no longer fun when you have to pay $100+ for every new card released.

Topps could have handled the Strasburg situation right - released a regular A&G card, a regular mini that wasn't super SP (or horribly collated), an A&G auto that wasn't super SP, a base card in Tribute, a base card in Topps Update, etc.
