My commitment had been waning but I came home to my first 3 packages waiting for me. I have to say they're pretty nice. Super glossy with some light embossing/engraving on the details. Getting them in hand reenergized me, and I look forward to continuing this project as long as I can.

Just got my Ortiz's in the mail-impressed with the quality.

The place of origin surprised me however.

Not quite a month into production, 35 different cards that have sold for a collective $215,000 for the print run. I have to think this is making Topps great money, but I have absolutely no clue what it may cost to print a run of cards, so who knows. Seems the average print run for these is somewhere between 250-500 copies. The highest run has not broke 2000 cards yet.

I doubt I'll ever buy one.

Will the next level be actual serial numbers, signed and/or GU copies? The trend starts all over again...

Have people been selling these on E-Bay yet? If so, what have the peak sales been?

The Trevor Story's have been selling well, as have card #1 (Francisco Liriano) and #2 (Royals WS). Haven't really tracked any others, but most are trickling in to those who bought them right now so many still are not live.

I ordered 5 of the 1st Trevor Story and 20 of the 1st Kenta Maeda.

I sold 3 of Trevor Story and those have MORE then covered what I paid for all 25 cards.

The $215,000 does not take in consideration how many collectors/resellers bought in bulk. 1CARD = $9.99, 5 CARDS = $29.99 ($5.99 Per Card), 10 CARDS = $49.99 ($4.99 Per Card), 20 CARDS = $79.99 ($3.99 Per Card).

Yeah you need some Chinese algebra there. But I think there can be some educated guesses made. Casebusters and maybe 1 or 2 dealers have been listing cards every day, so they are all probably buying a 20-card block. There are a couple collectors I've seen on the boards who say they are buying them daily, but I don't know if from Topps or a third party. And given the floor of ~250 and the ceiling of ~1250-1500 depending on the player and event, I'd say most of the difference is in 1s and 5s. This is all based on watching a couple boards and FB groups, and there are loads of collectors who are on neither, but I'd roughly guess 50% of the sales are singles, 10% are 5s, 10% are 10s, and 30% are 20s.

True, didn't factor that in. I'd bet that the higher print runs tend to include more bulk buying, with people jumping on the most "popular" cards in hopes of turning a quick profit. I'm sure there are a handful of bulk buyers doing the whole run to give their customers a deal, but I'd guess not more than a dozen or two.

Regardless, I think they have got to be making a killing. I'd be tempted if they would number the cards.

Well, they hinted that Marwin Gonzalez was happening tomorrow. You got me, Topps. You got me.

3 cards tomorrow? Marwin, Max & Noah?!?

Thanks,
Jeff

After reading your post I was looking at Noah's final stat line trying to figure out what was so special about his start and just couldn't figure it out...but then I double checked and noticed his batting stats, something I almost never do with pitchers and quickly figured it out. 2 home runs...wow. How often has a pitcher done that?
