I wonder if there will be another phoney "error" this year that will create a media frenzy like the '07 Jeter or '06 Gordon.
Anyway, I'm a Topps set collector, so I can't wait.

Count on it.

I'm not harping on Topps Series 1 or 2, but what value is there in them? I haven't bought any Topps 1 or 2 boxes in quite sometime so I may be mistaken but unless you're a low-end set collector is this stuff worth buying? If my post is "off" then please don't take my lack of correct information as trying to knock on your fave product (I am seriously interested in hearing about Topps 1 & 2 , & if either are really a good price-point purchase if you're looking at SV?).

Thanks, Dave. :D

Topps base sets have a huge following by set collectors. The stuff is low end, but sells like hot cakes.

Year in and year out since 1952, you can count on Topps Baseball Cards. Thank God for that!

Aside from case busting and putting together base sets, what out of 2-3 boxes
really sells for any sort of decent ROI ??

I remember new Topps being out at Thanksgiving!

That was perfect for the card shops. All the new card sets would be released around Christmas... so all kinds of moms and dads would go in and pick up a box or 2 for junior. You couldnt beat the price.... $40 or so for a box.... since that changed.... have you noticed more and more card shops closing? Wonder if all the Christmas money that they lost had anything to do with that.

And back in the boom days of the 80s, it was just $12 to $15 a box.
It was great being a kid back then.

Got 1 jumbo box coming for a video break / review.

I'm looking forward to the buy back redemptions for the million card giveaway.

It was indeed fun. I remember taking Christmas money I got in 1986 (I was 11) and buying about 10 boxes of 1987 Topps for about that price (I think they were .35 a pack). Put together sets and had stuff to trade and sell at shows to feed the addiction. Back then it was 50% cash and 60% trade. Not to mention I had a ton of gum.

I'm surprised to hear it is coming out so late now. Just doesn't seem right.

I was at the Yankee Clubhouse Store in NYC over the weekend and they had retail packs (12 cards) and jumbo packs (36 cards). I was tempted, but passed considering the retail was $3.99 and jumbo was $7.99. I'm glad I did. I thought that the release date wasn't until February.

So do I smartass. You also pay money to collect those cards. And it costs less to "collect" a set from eBay than it does to buy 2 hobby boxes at release.

It does sound like you're harping on Topps.

Anyone who doesn't understand Topps will have a hard time understanding this hobby and/or have been hanging out exclusively with investors for way too long. If you really don't understand, you're deserving of sympathy  .

Says the be all, know all of baseball cards. My collection has nothing to with investors, and I couldn't care less about base Topps.

This eliminates almost all of the collecting fun. A set is well worth the price of busting a couple boxes...especially when you don't have to worry about really rare SPs.

I'm sure you know set collectors are different than player collectors and enjoy parts of the hobby.
