Re: Topps Contracted ARTIST HOBRECHT - 3rd Post on Page 2

I really like the well done sketch cards. I also have a Diaz that I really like:

2009-Topps-021.jpg

I'm not really sure how this was done. It's probably one of the mixed media ones, but I still like it.

2008-0112.jpg

I assume this one is free hand since it lacks a lot of the detail of the others. While it isn't as lifelike as the others, I like the cartoony aspect.

Heres my one and only sketch card

100% free hand

How are you absolutely sure it is 100% free hand?
One thing you may want to do is to magnify it really large and see if you see any dots...if you do see dots, then it may be a transfer.

Hello my name is Kevin Graham and was asked to join this forum to discuss my cards, etc.
In regards to the comment of if you see dots it might be a copy well in my case you probably will see hundreds of dots, I draw in pointillism :) I dont have much time today but will post some samples of my cards later. Here is one I did for the 1st Series:
Mickey-Mantle-Color1.jpg

You can see more of my work at: http://www.kevingrahamart.com
All my work is hand drawn and not mixed media. Yes I have done repeats but mostly because lack of time since I dont currently draw fulltime. I only get to draw a few hours a week. I will say the quality of my work on a future set will be much better since I will have more time. Hope you enjoy.

Nice work! I doubt I could even trace something and have it come out that good!

I had never really considered buying sketch cards until these posts. I'd love to get a bunch of them now, frame them and hang them in my office.

If you come back, please explain this "I draw in pointillism"??

I got my ruth and there does seem to be "dots"? Whatever it is, it sure doesn't look like watercolor or paint or anything that was drawn directly on the card?? Still hoping to also see Luis Diaz here..

Pointillism is basically drawing in 100's to 1000's of little dots. I rather not comment on those who just print out photos and color them, to each is own. I just enjoy doing realistic drawings all freehand and in the Pointillism style. I also do drawings that are more basic and just outline, somewhat comic like. It really depends on how much time I have to work on a project. Heres a close up of some of my Pointillism artwork, sorry not baseball. Actually I have been so busy I still have blank cards we get as returns from the second series :)

Wow, I had been skipping over this thread until today (I got so bored I finally decided to take a peek, & boy am I glad I did)! It is extremely awesome that several of the artist's have stopped in & taken the time to explain & comment on thier work & style's! As the member above who said they never thought much in the way of buying any sketch piece's until now, I too have grown a bit intrigued by these piece's (& although the sport's card sketche's never appealled to me before, I think I will begin collecting them)!

Thanks guy's for coming in during your own free-time & posting, it is VERY much appreciated! Also, thanks to hofautos for contacting them & inviting them to come over to post (VERY cool of you to do)! :D

Yes Sean Pence does great work and is a very nice guy. We were both at a convention together recently.

There are definately some amazing artists doing some of these sketch cards with infinately greater ability than me. I'd love to have some of their work in my collection. It was really cool to hear from a few of the good ones Topps has employed.

So how do you paint dots?
Can you tell by a closeup of this how it was created, if it is "mixed media" or transfer, or ??
The artist assure me it is not transfer, but hasn't expanded beyond that. In hand, it is clear to me it isn't water colored with a brush, so I really have no clue?

He also said he would join us by week's end, but hasn't yet...still hoping.

For the artists join us, I appreciate you guys taking the time to share what you put into the cards.

If you do non card company portraits on demand, it may be worth posting prices in the appropriate transaction boards. Also if you sell on ebay I would suggest that you visit

http://freedomcardboard.com/fcbay/

to gain the added exposure on this site and all likelihood the major search engines on all of your auctions.

Best of luck, and we would love to see a preview if you are contacted by any of the card companies in the future.

Never knew there was sport Sketch cards. I thought I've seen them before but forgot. Very cool.

Here's a few Indiana Jones sketch cards we recently pulled.
