Holy cow! I know in MLB there are consequences for any type of contact with the ump during an argument, so what would Torrealba get for contact like this??

Anyone else hear about this incident? What was the outcome?

I know this is going to sound harsh to some/most, but unnecessary instances of violence like this in baseball should have a zero tolerance policy. If he were banned from professional sports all together, I would not blink an eye.

A similar incident got Offerman banned from the Dominican league for life. One hopes something similar is in order.

You are correct sir. But, he also missed when he threw the punch, lol.

Strange thing is....I saw Offerman at least once a week for almost all of last summer. He is actually a very mellow, calm, and nice guy.

Completely unnecessary and a flat out ******* move. Ump-player and player-ump physical contact is heavily discouraged I remember last year a Tiger was called out on strikes and started getting in his face and screaming at him and the ump just kind of touched his back basically like a friendly pat to try to calm him down and tell him to just get in the dugout and the MLB came down on him and Jim Leland went absolutely nuts on him and that was a totally friendly pat to try to calm the player down, in this circumstance it is just so uncalled for. A fine or small suspension will not do, drastic punishment is in order.

I imagine there will be no consequences from the MLB - he didn't do it while under the control of MLB (AFAIK Venezuela league is probably not mentioned in MLB's CBA) and the MLBPA will probably make the case strongly if Selig tries any discipline that he was playing in a Venezuela league. The MLB will probably just note that he has anger issues and any offense under the control of MLB will carry a stiffer penalty than a normal similar offense would..

I do think he'll receive severe displine action from the Venezuela league.

yep, that's severe. The rest of this venezuela season and all of the 2012 venezuela season.

better watch himself in MLB since that is the only place he'll be playing until 2013 unless his anger comes out in an incident in a MLB game.
