True, but so are the Twins, and they never seemed to be able to reach the guy.

HE's 23!!!!!! He's had 892 AB's for the Twins in two years. And he's already solid defensively.

Jeesh!
I agree with you a 100%, sir.

As a Twins fan, I'm liking this trade. Gomez can provide some great defense, but really lacks in plate discipline. He'll frustrate you when he's in the batter's box but he'll go out and make some great catches in the field.

A shortstop with power is something we haven't see in a long time up here and I truly feel Hardy will be a good fit. Now, if he can return to 07/08 form I'll be very :D .

Ignorance is bliss...

You're the one who can seemingly predict the future.....

Wow are you narrow-minded.

Gomez, whether in the minors or majors, has never put up an OPS higher than 775. Although he has above average speed, he is a below average base runner and takes bad routes on balls in the field. I understand that you want to be excited about an acquisition, but this just was not a good trade. I like the Brewers and I always hope they win the Central, but I think Hardy was worth much more.

J.J. Hardy sucked this last season. What kind of player did you expect them to get for him?[/quote:1jdz7cs6]

Not top tier talent of course, but some talent would have been nice. Gomez sucks.[/quote:1jdz7cs6]
I wouldnt say Go-Go sucks... he is 23 for God sake[/quote:1jdz7cs6]

...I would.[/quote:1jdz7cs6]

I would too whether your 23 25 27 or 29 if you routinely make bad mistakes can not hit the ball and just do not show much of any baseball skill you suck.

I'm fine with this trade. If you don't understand the salary room that this gave us and the value in that, you'll probably poo-poo this trade.

And for those of you that say Gomez sucks: are you really basing that off of a strong enough sample size and/or will you admit that steady playing time can be a solid cure for plate discipline?

And as Brewer fans can tell you, swap Gomez for Cameron, and you are swapping a guy who k's 20-23% of the time for a guy who K's 25-28% of the time. So calm down with the "horrible plate discipline" tirades, since the Brewers are actually getting an upgrade there.

I hope you're right there! Go-Go is fun to watch, but mental mistakes just don't fly in MN. It'll be nice to see what Hardy can do with a fresh start.

Plate discipline isnt striking out, its getting walks instead of making outs. Cameron walks twice as much as Gomez. Cameron, because he strikes out, gets a bad rap but he really is a very good player. Gomez, while good defensively, has shown nothing that would give any indication of becoming even an average offensive player. He is seriously that awful at the plate, where even becoming an average hitter would be a huge shock. He could progress at a huge rate, but Mike Cameron is far and away a better offensive player, and comparing the two at this stage, especially in the area of plate discipline, is about as far off as possible.

You are also swapping a .795 OPS with a .623 OPS. People can call Gomez toolsy all they want, the reality is, he isn't. He is an elite defensive outfielder who CANNOT hit. He is a hacker with absolutely no power. That is a horrible combination.

He's also only 23. Let's let him suck for a few more years before we end his career. Dedicated time as a starter can do wonders. If he hits .250 I'll be happy. I'm glad we're at least going to have someone who will help a pitching staff with his defense, much like Cameron did. And we don't really NEED power out of our CF if we can get him to act like a true lead-off hitter.

And go ahead and say he's NOT. I prefer to use reasonable sample sizes.

I'm bummed I'm going to have to watch Gomez play 20 times a year. I hate the way he plays the game. He is WAAAY too flashy.

I think a lot of people will think he fits right in with the cocky, young Brewers team 8-)
