Personally, I never make offers and pass over tons of stuff i'd probably be interested in if a set price was there.

If this is the case then why do you want to "make" other people post thier sell price (as you've said yourself, it's not hurting you if someone else's card doesn't sell)? So why even bring this issue up (I figured since you are the transaction board Mod that it was ultimately your say to make up this poll), why not just keep "passing up" seller's item's who don't list thier asking price? I mean, it isn't affecting anyone "but" the seller's of the item's, correct? So is there really a need for them to post a price? If the buyer doesn't want to deal with seller's that don't price thier item's then "continue on, nothing to see here"; but there is actually no good reason to make pricing one's item's mandatory (not 1 good reason, other than someone getting to have thier "preference" be a "board-rule").
To be honest, I don't have a problem either way as I'm not one of those buyer's that is scared to communicate with the seller (& vice versa). If there is a price you don't like or no price there at all, make a dang offer (all an online stranger, whom you'll probably never meet in your life, can do is say "No" :| )... Take care all, Dave. :D

Well I'm glad we don't have to do as you say!

Re: TRANSACTIONS POLL! POSTING PRICES MANDATORY?

#1) I sort of like the idea....though not 'mandatory'.
Look at it this way: I am selling a Tommy Hanson card. I put it up and mention I have a refractor for sale and I am taking offers (I HATE this way of doing things, so many do it though). I receive a PM stating "what do I want for it" then the next knee-jerk response "I am taking offers" then the "last one sold for $35, will you take $30" Now if I just posted 30 or 35 in the thread someone probably would send an email "I will take it" rather than going back and forth.....and nothing is to say that the back and forth can't last days for each party to respond.

#2) You have a roadblock:
"Entire bucket for sale let me know if you see anything you like"

BAM. You can't expect someone to price their whole bucket and make it mandatory. I guess you can say that you need to show pictures with prices in all of your transaction threads.

The only high prices you may have is if for example I paid $45 for the Hanson and I listed it at 40 or 45 when the last one received 35. Not so much price gouging, just the seller breaking even now that the card has lost its sizzle.

We can give it a try.

Quite simply not posting a price just wastes people's time. Inevitably you are going to get PM's or posts saying - "How much" and inevitably you are going to throw out a figure - WHY NOT JUST MAKE THAT FIGURE PUBLIC in the OP!??!!?

Re: TRANSACTIONS POLL! POSTING PRICES MANDATORY?

If we mandate listing a selling price, are we going to mandate that people who post WTB threads say how much they are willing to pay for each card first?

...this just feels like over regulation to me. don't mean to step on toes here, but it just seems a little overkill.

Re: TRANSACTIONS POLL! POSTING PRICES MANDATORY?

Since this doesnt really effect me since I only buy from folks who tell me a price I'm still waiting for one good reason why you wouldnt list the price you're looking for.

So far, I've heard reasons that sound like "I dont want to be told i have to" and nothing that explains the other side more than that.

It would appear that the mods want this to be changed? So much for impartiality.

If sellers have to put prices when sold then buyers need to put offer prices on WTB threads. Then I'm for it.

Re: TRANSACTIONS POLL! POSTING PRICES MANDATORY?

All I am going to say is why are we trying to fix something that isnt broken. It seems to me that if it is split 50/50 and everyone seems to be able to get deals done in the trader section, why do a BIN/BO type program.

If anything it is just going to flood the boards with a bunch of posts that will go unanswered because of the price of the card. I say keep things the way they are, and people can choose who they want to deal with based on their selling practices.....

Have you read anything I typed?

Were you reading between the lines where I said I would be fine with whatever the majority decided?

Or did you misunderstand where I said it doesnt effect me since I only buy from folks who quote me a price and I never make offers?

Which one of those indicates i'm not impartial?

I guess you misunderstood where BCA also disagreed.

Let me know if I can spell it out more clearly for you...

Were you reading between the lines where I said I would be fine with whatever the majority decided? You said that while saying "phillyfan0417 wrote:

I cant really think of one good reason you wouldnt simply post a price. Personally, I never make offers and pass over tons of stuff i'd probably be interested in if a set price was there.

Although I'll stick with whatever the majority decides."

Tell me you weren't lobbying for people to vote for pricing. "I can't really think of one good reason you wouldn't simply post a price." Because everyone that doesn't agree with you isn't all that smart and doesn't have their own agenda.

Or did you misunderstand where I said it doesnt effect me since I only buy from folks who quote me a price and I never make offers?
That is your own choice.

Which one of those indicates i'm not impartial?
Stated above.

I guess you misunderstood where BCA also disagreed.
Jim can make his own decisions, I don't care either way. I already stated at the beginning that no matter what price you put, people will lowball no matter what even if it is a price at or below ebay people will offer half.

Let me know if I can spell it out more clearly for you...

This should without question be optional.

Sometimes you don't know what something is worth and just want to see what kind of offers you might get.

So the lesson here is as a moderator, I cant have an opinion. Thanks for the update.

I'm not lobbying anyone, like I said before, I dont care about this one way or another. Would it make life easier? Sure, but if the majority says no, it's business as usual for me.

I wish there were somewhere it was stated.

It seems to be a loaded question coming from a moderator. Why should you have an opinion? Is the job making policy or carrying policy out?

Its both. Most policy changes or proposals come from members. We decided with this one, to throw it out there for discussion and opinions. Seemed like the right way to go about this instead of making a decision on our own. Like I said originally, if the no's win, there will be no changes and right now, it looks like that is where we're going.

I just wish that folks would stop questioning motives or telling us what our jobs are. But hey, if this makes you feel like you're rebelling against the man or something, more power to you.

As for how I do my job, sure, you can have an opinion on that.
