From some very recent articles, quotes from Riccardi:

"He added that the Jays might call up rookie Travis Snider and catcher J.P. Arencibia from triple-A in September. Pitcher Shaun Marcum, who had Tommy John surgery, may or may not return this year."

www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/story/2009/0 ... nks-p.html

"Ricciardi said he hoped Travis Snider and some other youngsters, including perhaps catcher J.P. Arencibia, will join the Blue Jays as September call-ups."

www.network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/p ... -land.aspx

I figured Snider would be, but if J.P. is called, that will be AWESOME! It will make this terrible season well worth it!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Oh Canada......
I think JP can be a V-Mart type catcher with better fielding abilities.... not saying he's gonna have Victor's bat but you never know.

Will be a nice treat to see Arencibia up this year.

Shep :ugeek:

This was a news related thread. I read it, got informed...saw everyone praising him and had to let my opinion know.

Why post, "Why post?"

This is a discussion board, I am discussing the players. This isn't the "JP Arcencibia Fanclub."

Using the word not once, but twice, you'd think that there was actually something useful in your previous post that those of even half intellect could immediately point to as "discussion". Unfortunately "sucks" just doesnt seem to do that for me, but maybe for you? No reason why, no thought, just he sucks. Hey what do I know though?

I have no faith whatsoever in Arencibia. I'd call up Jeroloman before him.

He's one of the most overrated Jays prospect I can remember in my 23 years of following this team. I hope to hell I'm wrong but I just don't ever see him being more than a back-up in the Majors. If things break right, I could see him being Rod Barajas, which isn't terrible by any means but not what a lot of Jays fans are expecting.

Dopirak had better get the call. He's earned it.

What about Jeroloman makes you want him in Toronto over J.P.? Considering his numbers are even worse in AA (except Average by a few points and OBP). Does his defense really off-set those numbers?

Oh, for future reference "thefasterblade", that was a discussion.

Well, defence is obviously in Jeroloman's favour though I have been pleasantly surprised by the reports of Arencibia's improvement. For me, though, it all comes down to pitch recognition. Arencibia has none and hasn't shown any signs of improvement in two years. He hits mistakes (and hits them a long ways) but has shown no ability whatsoever to adjust to off-speed stuff. Sure, it could still come as he's only 23 but it's usually not something that just clicks. With his power I'm sure he'll carve out a major league career; I just have no expectations that he'll be an average starting catcher in Toronto. Again, I hope to hell I'm wrong. But I have more faith that Jeroloman will eventually be able to handle major league pitching.

Gotcha, and I totally agree.
