My friend BluesBroSJ and I have been kicking around the idea of starting a card show in the Overland Park/Kansas City area for a while now. Our tentative date is May 5 & 6 (Royals homestand vs the Yankees) at a hotel or mall in Overland Park. I'm looking into locations starting tomorrow. We are also looking into a Royals player to make an appearance and sign autographs.

We would like to make this a fairly regular show if possible. Is there anyone in the area who would like to set up or participate in some manner? We're just kind of throwing out ideas right now, but I think we could make this fun.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

you may think about giving these guys a call or shoot them an emai. They organize small shows here in KC area:
(public record - from Beckett.com)

Craig Cook 816-679-9874 [email protected]
Tim Belk 417-529-9956

Don't call Tim Belk, that guy is a tool! I would love to be there and set up if I were still stationed in Missouri. I am stationed at FE Warren AFB now in Cheyenne, WY so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to attend. I was in Missouri for 11 years and had to endure the Tim Belk card shows... It would have been nice to have someone else running them.

The guys that run the Independence show would never return my calls to get a table. I think that's Tim Belk.

Adam1bancroft (on the boards here) would be in I'm nearly sure of it.

The more local shows the better, I would try to make it down to attend if possible. Des Moines has squat for card shows.

Those Independence Mall shows where pretty good, nice mall, but even that has been dropping in tables. Maybe try to pick up a KU basketball player for your show, like a Tyshawn Taylor.

Craig is already doing a show in April and I won't deal with Belk. He used to do shows here in Topeka and we never got along. This is more something I'm looking to start myself with BluesBrosSJ.

It's good to see that my total disdain for Tim Belk is not in the minority.

Is that Mother's Day weekend? If not, I may have to make a roadtrip!

I loved the old Tri Star shows that were in the Overland Park area. I wish they still did them. I got my first Goudey Babe Ruth at one of the KC shows.

I went to the last Independence Center show a few weeks ago. One of the dealers I talked to said the show organizer backed out at the last minute. Tim Belk has always done these shows in the past. I would guess it was him that backed out. The show was terrible.

I'm not sure that I would be able to do a table at a KC area show, but I would definitely be there.

Nope, mother's day is May 13 this year. It would be great to have you down here for the show.
As for Belk, I have never dealt with him personally, mainly for the same reason's as Justin. I think we're just tired of seeing a lot of the same stuff over and over again around here, as for the last show I went to, there were multiple dealers selling garage sale type items (dvd's, cd's etc) and that's what we're trying to avoid in setting this show up.

Wow...had no idea about Belk. I just knew that his name was always associated with the Indep Center shows. I also went to the ones a few weeks back. It seemed like a lot of the dealers were pricing towards a mall crowd who didn't know much about cards. Walked away spending nothing.

I'd love to be involved in getting a show here. I wouldn't be selling much except dime-box cards, but if there is any other way I can pitch in to get one here, I'm in.

We're going to start calling places in the next day or two, so if you're interested in setting up shoot me or Jeff a PM so we can start getting a rough head/table count and a beter idea of the size of a place we're going to need.

We're gonna try and make this happen and have a little bit of fun doing it!

I'd be interested. At a minimum, a few Springfield, MO guys could set up a table or 3.

Jeff, any plans about the Fanfest this summer? KC will be the Mecca of the baseball world for a week in July. I'd think it would be a great opportunity for your business.

Not to speak for his plans, but in terms of putting on a show, I know of a few people that kicked tires with a few hotels around where fanfest will be, and they were wanting 20k for a small expo room.
