TSA.ca is reporting that Brian Campbell will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken clavicle and broken ribs as a result of being boarded by Alexander Ovechkin early in the Hawks Caps game yesterday. Ovie was given a 5 minute Boarding Major which is an automatic Game Misconduct. this is Ovechkin's 3rd Game Misconduct this season. according to Darren Dreger the NHL is scheduling a discipline hearing for Ovechkin.

I just didn't want to be the first one to say it Tim but yes he is getting out of control.

Ovechkin really needs to decide what he wants to be...and he shouldn't be both the bruiser and the goal scorer.

I agree Mike. also it will not be long until one of the NHL's real goons go after Ovechkin in retaliation for one of these hits.

As talented as Ovechkin is, his is an irresponsible player when it comes to contact. He is fast and big, but just has terrible judgement/instinct when it comes to contact in the game. I believe unlike the Downie clip posted, Ovechkin's intent was not to injure in that respect he just cannot stop himself from crossing the line. If he cuts around the net and gets back in the play faster he does more for his team than finishing a check on an out of position defender who would be irrelevant in the rush. Once he learns you don't have to hit someone whenever the puck not on your stick he will be even more dangerous a player scoring wise and less dangerous to the health of himself and others.

As a Blackhawks fan, this sucks.

As an Ovechkin fan, this sucks.

Ovechkin is good for the game. He draws people to hockey that wouldn't otherwise be interested in the sport. Someone needs to have a serious talk with him & get him focused before it's too late.

I completely agree that Ovie is good for the game but his kneeing and unnecessary hitting of his opponents is not. people who are tuning in just to see him play whether they are NHL fans or not are going to be turned off by his antics. like lumm0x said once he learns to be more disciplined and just focus on scoring he will be even more of a threat than he already is if that's possible.

the Washington Post reporting Ovechkin will receive a 2 game suspension.

I think that is 2 games too light but who knows what is even going on with the NHL disciplinary group right now.

This makes the Matt Cooke decision look even DUMBER, if that were possible.
Overall, I agree with lumm0x's post entirely. I really like watching Ovechkin, but someone needs to sit the kid down (he *is* still a kid) and tell him what's what. It's like he's hellbent on disproving the "All Russians are soft" stereotype that goes through Canada all by himself.

meh, it wasnt that dirty of a hit, some of his other where, 2 games im fine with it. Ovie just needs to think before he acts, he just gets to into the game somethimes and makes stupid plays. he just needs to slow his gmae down some and focus more on the hits he makes.

and lumm0x great post, i agree fully
