Re: MONDAY (leaf info plus ud gets mlbpa & more) Updates from vegas industry summit

Without it, the checklist is cut down by 2/3. NT wouldn't have sold as well without the possibility of current players (ie Trout).

Trout is signable.

It would have meant more legwork.

Panini isnt lazy and would have done it just fine without the deal.

If it wasn't worth having the mlbpa license, then why do panini and ud both now have it?

The ud license is not exciting without logos. I think it can be used as a stepping stone to get back in good graces with MLBpa but that's it.

So if panini using 20% for a licensing is a silly way to use revenue. How has leaf spent that 20% to give them a competitive advantage or to benefit the consumer?

Leaf can get away with their model because they are not producing full roster MLB sets. A prospect set with Ichiro and rose isn't exactly the same as producing a set like nt or elite. Really it sounds like leaf is hindering the process with their money and forcing the hobby into a mercenary type state. You now have Lillard and Ichiro autos that won't be available in team gear. Unless its a "buy back" That doesn't benefit the collector.

I'd like to know two things about the topps contract with MLB. Is there a section on game used where the wording allowed is dictated by topps? And is there specific wording over the use of players not in good standing. (Pete rose, joe Jackson)

They already do.

I know that obviously, wondering if they still will, now that ud does.

Re: TUESDAY Updates from vegas industry summit

Technically, they do hand out these exclusive cards "for free"

But, I can only speak for myself & say that this conference has cost $1500 for me to attend AND my store is closed for 3 days (would have cost hundreds more had I not gotten a scholarship).

So....the companies do hand out the items (one per store or per paid registered) but it certainly helps with our costs.

Re: TUESDAY Updates from vegas industry summit

Panini just gave out their famous "black boxes" & like usual, the room was packed. So much so that for the first time, panini held the meeting in a big auditorium.

Also like usual, there were dealers standing outside the auditorium buying these boxes for several HUNDREDS of dollars.

This years black boxes are loaded with a guaranteed 1/1 auto or gu or patch a AND a special prizm pack. Both of these have never been done before.
