[quote="Tomlinson21RB":304iu9gr]60 points difference in batting average is huge, especially when one player plays half his games at Coors.

Tulo's HR's are split evenly at 6 (Home/Away), he has 4 more doubles away than he does at home, and his away average is only 10 points lower than his seasonal average. I'd say this would be typical for most players. Coors field has the humidor now.

He still has a dramatic home/road split. .934 OPS at home vs. .805 on the road. Very good numbers either way, though.

That said, he's never been a great player on the road. Career splits are 855 vs 739. Coors has definitely helped him to this point.

And even assuming Coors doesn't play a part, 60 points of batting average is a HUGE difference. The most valuable play a hitter can make is not making an out.

Hits are great, but the most valuable play is the Grand Slam. With the 40 extra AB's and all the extra hits Hanley has to have such a high avg, he's only scored 5 more times that Tulo and has 10 more RBI. Judging by their careers thus far, Tulo will likely catch him in RBI.

If the guys before a player record outs instead of hits or walks, that grand slam doesn't happen. The most valuable play is not recording an out.

In 40 more ab's Hanley only has 5 more runs and 10 more RBI. That is close, but again look at team and park factors. The Rockies as a team hit 10 points higher for average, have 40+ more RBI, and 30+ more Runs. Hanley has accounted for 13% of his teams RBI and Tulo only 8.5%. Hanley is 13% of his teams runs and Tulo is about 10%.[/quote:304iu9gr]

I'm surprised by the Rockies having better numbers than the Marlins. For about 2 months the Rockies lineup had Iannetta (high 100's), Atkins (high 100's), Tulo (low 200's), Barmes (low-mid 200's), Fowler (mid 200's), and now Gonzalez (high 100's).

Well seeing he has only played one full season and hit .291 i would call that close to .300.

He only played in 101 games last year and i think it was due to an injury. He slumped really bad for most of the first half of the season. I really see him picking it up.

I however will wait to make a comment on who is better until Tulo has a few full seasons under his belt.

If i had to choose one right now for my team i would take Tulo and his 1 mil a year contract over Hanleys $5.5.

I'm a little worried because your definition of close seems to be incorrect.

Tulo hit .294 in 07, hit .327 from the All-Star break on last year, and is currently hitting .266 and I already outlined how good he is in the 2nd half. But, I agree, we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm just happy my favorite player is doing so well. This the second time another member has mentioned Tulo and I've found myself carrying on the discussion.

Tulo signed a 6 year $36 million contract with the Rockies before the 08 season. However, I'd assume both Tulo's and Hanley's contracts are stair stepping contracts.

Coors Field has had the humidor.
Here's an interesting statistic:
At least as of last week, Coors Field was not in the top 5 parks in highest average or most homers. Two of the fields I believe were on this list were Camden Yards and Citizens Bank.

I picked Tulo up to be my starting ss for fantasy. However, I had to bench him in favor of Yunel E. Tulo is now my utl. man because he is absolutely mashing. However, I dont think you can compare him to Hanley. Also, to whoever said 60 points of batting average isn't a lot. You are crazy...

If you look at past park factors Florida isn't as consistently high as Coors. The home vs. road split could just be because they field a young team that plays better at home.

The 60 point difference in average is huge, but I see it dropping.

This is how he's hitting each month
April .200
May .242
June .373

For the last three seasons has has hit
Pre All Star break .247
Post .299

Hanley has only hit .010 higher in the second half.

This was a portion of my argument as well.

BTW, the only thing that could make hitting 2 bombs cooler is doing it off a pitcher that nearly took your head off and after starring him down...were you watching it live? It looked like Tulo was very irritated.

I saw a little bit of the game. It's good to see his power back. He started off the season with 3 HRs right?
