That Payton cut is gross. Really no defending this product at the current price.

I actually think the Payton cut is much better than those stupid phone cards Donruss has used for the last 3 years. At least I can see the auto.

Would I buy it over another one from before 2007? **** no. But definitely over other recent ones.

Why the hell would UD stilluse the damaged cards, especially in such a high priced product?

Not trying to beat a dead horse, as i've posted in this thread a couple times (and honestly I was looking for an excuse to buy a box), but if this product does turn out to be a bust I realized a big difference between the basketball release and an explanation to the problems I have seen...

In B-ball EVERY card was #'d 99 or less. Every card was not auto'd, but the majority were, or featured patches and at the least they were fairly limited. I have to imagine there are more rookies being used in football and by numbering them to 399, it not only takes away some value from the rc's but dilutes the whole product. It's still a nice looking product, but seems this may have been a way to up the production run while still trying to charge near the same price as the basketball release. (IMO the flag "base" cards are essentially extra cards and not "hits", so not really factoring those into the print run thing)

So think I'm done with this topic  and don't know if that made any sense, but at least to me the #'d 399 rc's vs. every card #'d 99 or less seems to be a big difference, especially when we're talking $200 or so for 2 cards.

Hey guys, I mostly post on the BB boards, but I have taken somewhat of an interest in this set.
Once the prices bottom out, I plan to pick up the flag cards for Forte, Sayers, and Da Coach.

I've watched ARP's and Chris' breaks, and I can't figure out what everyone is so upset about.

ARP pretty much got out of 5 boxes what I expect to see out of any football product I see busted.
A bunch of rookie autos, and few vet autos, with at least 1 solid card. Aren't the rookie autos
the component that drives most FB products? I fully agree that it is over-priced, but that is dictated
by the market and what people are willing to pay. I have never bought any product at release for
exactly that reason.

The real question is: How often do you really get a decent ROI out of any product, let alone high-end?

I definitely see why people are concerned if they bust for profit. However, when you can pick and choose the singles you want, its a cool product.

Although, I do agree the pens are having major ******* problems with some of these cards.

I would like a Holmes or Ward flag card buuuuuuuuuuuuuut ooops 2 superbowls mvps and a 1st ballot hof'er must not have qualified for the set at all ;)
I am not upset at the box busting. I buy singles and do not break for profit. I am disappointed at the autos on the flag cards, cuts autos and pen issues. The autos on the flag cards are not vissible and even the ap 1/1 in the set s a joke.

Receivers are rarely first ballot guys, unless you are Jerry Rice. Ask Cris Carter.

Either way, to be in the set, you have to have an auto parallel, and I dont think either of those guys will be signing for the foreseeable future. I havent seen either on a hard signed card for a long, long time. Holmes I read somewhere is done signing. Though you would know more than anyone.

Guranteed Hines ward 1st ballot but that is for another day. By the time he is done he will have massive numbers and a superbowl mvp trophy and 2 rings at least.

You probably didn't have to wait.
I was looking at the early sales and saw this.

I don't know how much Sales stuff usually bring sin, but this seemed pretty cheap considering it just released is #'d 25 and other than being over his name, the auto isn't that bad on this one.

The problem is Sayers would sign toilet paper if you gave it to him. Along with every other HOF'er UD has in the set.
Watererd down HOF'ers FTL!

That is why it goes cheap. In our break adub pulled a sayers 1/1 auto film slide and thought he hit the lotto. I ADVISED HIM THAT IS A 250-300 CARD TOPS ON A GOOD DAY.

Per Chris Carlin, Upper Deck does not have a deal with either guy currently. He mentioned that prices for veteran guys are going up astronomically and that they cannot pursue players that charge over their worth on the secondary market. At that point most of them price themselves right out of the sets.

Interesting. Guess they're not hurting for money anyways, but at nearly any price these popular vets would be making major bank just signing their names. It takes what, 5 seconds max to sign your name? if you were signing 100 stickers or cards for a set we can say it'll take you 5 seconds to switch cards. So 10 seconds per signature. It would take you just under 17 minutes to sign each of the 100 cards, and even if you were making a mere $5 a card (which I'd assume is VERY low for those two) you'd still be making somewhere in the range of $1750 an hour for your time.

The problem with your theory above is that the veteran's now understand how the market for this stuff goes & if they sign a ton of stuff then the market becomes watered down & no one wants thier autograph anymore (or at least they'll not want to pay for it). And for the minor star-to-"no-name" veteran's, most of them didn't make a lot playing football (hell, most all veteran's didn't make anything near what the scrub player's are making today) & for many of those guy's the memoribilia market is a second income & in most cases it is needed to live on. I'm all for these old vet's, that have been shat on by the NFL, making as much as possible on thier auto's & I personally think it is BS that the NFL is fighting so hard against helping out the "fore-father's" of football (they're the one's who made it what it is today & can't pay thier hospital bill's, so I say HELL YEAH charge UD an arm & a leg for your signature & if they don't wanna pay then continue doing shows & making that utility bill money)! :D

Chris is full of shiat. Quit drinking the kool aid Gellman. Panini and others have no issues with them signing. I just checked with my buddy Korb who has exclusive deals with bothon memoriablia. He called their agents who denounced Chris's claim. I mean really you can't be that much of an UD pole smoker to think they charged over their worth. I also contacted my old Syracuse University friend Ed Vaughn who used to hold Hines's license before Korb. Hines's fees are not above anybody else's he deals with. Another case where UD has an answer for everything and has a sounding board(you) to help them with propaganda
