A lot of people are coming down on Upper Deck's NCAA releases so far this year - I won't say they're right or wrong to do so, but I can understand that NCAA uni-ed cards have a lot less of a market than a pro-uni. But why not capitalize on what you've got and make a Masterpieces NCAA set? Tebow alone would drive Florida collectors to purchase crazy amounts of this. Same size set, autos, short prints, etc. Off the top of my head, here are a handful of NCAA cards that Upper Deck could put in this set:

Boise State vs Oklahoma - Statue of Liberty play
Charles Woodson winning Heisman - if they could add Woodson to the auto set, it would be $$
Vince Young from 2005 Rose Bowl
Cal/Stanford - "The Play"
Doug Flutie's 1984 Hail Mary

Niche players for the checklist: Raghib Ismail, Deion Sanders, Archie Griffin, Bronco Nagurski, Eric Crouch, Ron Dayne, Ricky Williams, Brian Bosworth, Earl Campbell, Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Reggie Bush, Tim Brown, Desmond Howard, Charlie Ward, Tommie Frazier

Or classic dual/time warp cards - Dayne/Williams, Pennington/Moss, Hawk/Laurinaitis/Spielman, Tebow/Harvin... I'm running out of steam. I know I would try to put the ENTIRE set together - base, SP's, parallels, autos, game-used - I miss Masterpieces, because it was such a cool concept. This could be the perfect platform to bring it back on, and also sell some UD products in the process.

Masterpieces was a wonderful set IMHO. Great art and perfect for TTM. I for one would be all about some more Manning cards with the UT theme!

I would pay $100 in a heartbeat for a VY auto'd card celebrating the 2006 Rose Bowl

Ugh...Flutie's hail mary.

I would kill for a base card and all the Masterpiece parallels for a card of The U in 1987 showing up in their army fatigues (right before Vinny blew the game vs Penn State, even though Miami still outplayed Penn State and still almost won despite his five picks).

They could also do a killer insert set with all of the Heisman winners. No set in recent memory has ever done a full insert set really nailing it with Heisman themed cards.

I'm also starting to drool at all of the college greats that could be done for Miami. 8-)

I think if UD did something similar to Topps Magic with the triple autographs, Card Magnet would have a heart attack when he saw the Ray Lewis/Frank Gore/Reggie Wayne triple auto.

Yikes! Don't get me started  .

A team card of them coming out through the "smoke" for the first time would also be awesome. There also don't seem to be any cards of Ted Hendricks in college uniform...and he has a freaking NCAA award named after him.

I'm not really a college collector, so not really into the new UD stuff.....but I have to say I think that is a pretty good idea.
If they really did want to celebrate college football Masterpieces would really lend itself to that.
Those cards in all sports were great looking, especially the "classic" moments and what not.

Think part of UD's problem though is they haven't really made a set that felt different and, as I said, really celebrate the college game/tradition.....instead their basically producing the same content and configurations they would have with an NFL license. Though I could be wrong on that, but judging the sales thus far I really think you can't assume NFL collector's are college collector's and it would be in their best interest to switch things up a bit.

And Masterpieces is one of those sets that can transcend collecting habits, and I'm not just talking pro to college football. I know baseball collectors who have put together the football and hockey sets. Masterpieces Hockey is one of the very few hockey boxes I have ever opened, and I loved it. They brought back Sweet Spot, why not bring back Masterpieces?

I should forward this thread to somebody at UD...

Absolutely great idea.

JoeyV--"Blue Grass" miracle for sure, signed by Devery and Rohan.

I'd like to see it and would buy it. A Miami Hurricanes Triple Auto with Gore, Portis, and McGahee; a USC triple of Sanchez, Cassell, and Palmer; a signature series of quarterbacks of national champions (put me down for the Matt Mauck, Matt Flynn, and Warren Rabb); etc.

Leinart would be an infinitely better choice than Cassel. Cassel didn't even play at USC

Sure he did, just not much riding the bench behind Carson Palmer. Okay a Quad to include Leinart as well. A Palmer, Cassell, Polamalu triple entitled College Roomates would be cool.

Rohan didn't throw it but thanks for agreeing with me:) It was Marcus Randall.
