Upper Deck and USA Baseball Team to Launch Limited Box Set

Only 2,665 box sets produced, one-quarter of past annual production

North Las Vegas, NV (January 23, 2009) – For years trading card collectors have known that if they want to get in on the hottest baseball diamond prospects, they need to look no further than USA Baseball and its annual box set. Upper Deck has once again partnered with USA Baseball this year to produce the most limited box set ever, short-printed to just 2,665 total sets. The sets include great content from the 2008 National Team, the 18U National Team and the 16U National Team. And for the first time ever, the set will include autographs and jersey cards from the 2008 Chinese Taipei National Team.

Each 73-card set will include seven autographs in every box, including three on-card autographs. Collectors will also find six game-used jersey cards including two game-used patch cards. With the set being so limited, Upper Deck was able to sequentially number all of the game-used and autograph cards this year.

Collectors will not need to wait long to find these sets as Upper Deck has already started shipping them. To create additional excitement, USA Baseball fans can find rare autograph cards that feature a starting lineup with nine on-card autographs and the team roster autograph cards with over 20 autographs all on one card.

“We are excited to once again team with Upper Deck to produce the USA Baseball Box Set,” said David Perkins, chief operating officer of USA Baseball. “By featuring the first baseball cards of some of the game’s rising talent and keeping the number of sets limited, we hope to provide collectors and fans with a product with long-term value.”

“The USA Baseball National Teams’ box sets are extremely popular every year, but it was important to us to make them highly collectible by limiting the number we produced,” added Gabriel Garcia, Upper Deck’s Baseball associate brand manager. “To have each of the insert cards sequentially numbered with much less product in the market, we believe we can dramatically enhance the overall value of the sealed sets and singles.”

I'd be more enthused if so many players in this product didn't already have UD issued cards (Sweet Spot, Ultimate, etc).

Still, there's one player I'll be vigorously chasing.

As will I, however the limited amount of copies of said player is going to make him a difficult pickup.

Kentrail Davis!!!

Yes! I finally completed my SP Authentic set. U-S-A!
Very sweet! I still need to get my first card of him, lol.

I haven't been to my shop in a long time, but I still will find a UT Team card of Davis.

Have fun with these. They just scream utter garbage to me.

There is no need for these sets to be so expensive, especially given the players in the set.

I'm betting this is a direct response to Razor.

Well, good for them then....

....for failing miserably.

There is no way for these sets to hold value, unopened or as singles.

I'd still be interested in the team set card. Not sure which Davis cards I might go after in this set.

Here's a different opinion:

http://www.sportscardnation.com/MarketReportDetail.asp?MarketReportId=331

"The price point seems high at first until you analyze the break and realize that truly 1 card could easily pay for a set."

What card could you pull (excluding any 1/1) to pay for the entire set you bought?

Secondly, the majority of the set has been mass produced this year in every UD set. How does this make them any better or more desirable?

I can't help but think that the review you posted is a little bit "tilted" for marketing purposes.

Hopefully, the one guy I'll be chasing. Who, incidently, does not have any other cards as of now.

I really beg to differ with that opinion.

There will be some guys that will kill in the long term.

I still wish they had Borchering. Maybe he will be released in later sets(one can hope).
