This year's UC IS the balls. I'm lovin the on card autos. The only thing that irks me is the bajillion parallels. I've seen what seems like 10 different Ripken patch auto cards with the same design all numbered to /5. Only difference being the number of patches.

I love Prime Cuts. They've got a great thing going. I just would never bust a box.

Topps Sterling? My vote isn't the popular one, but give me Topps Sterling 08 over the other two everyday of the week. Never have I seen such insane patches in my life and are all jumbo at that.

I should probably mention that I am a singles collector and do not bust. If I were a manic box buster, I would probably go with Ultimate.

actually, if i had a choice between prime cuts 15x box case, ultimate collection 15x box case or topps sterling 10x box case, i would choose topps sterling knowing that i get a case hit (could be huge or a phil niekro jersey)

btw, on topic, i like

1) prime cuts (rose, jackson, amazing patches, getting a chance at a decent inserts or game used if you miss on the encased hit)
2) ultimate collection (on card auto finally, amazing jumbo patches and quad patch autos, barrel autos, etc. however, there are no real HITS like a 1/1 or something. it was always jeter, griffey, pujols, ripken as the big names but i realized no more pujols and upper deck?)
3) topps sterling (cut autos, bat barrels, jumbo patches and fold out patches are amazing as well as getting a chance at a 1/1 jumbo patch in the box topper. sickest patches i've seen on some cards. however, it is such a hit or miss product and it is mostly a miss. i mean, a ruth 3x bat #/10, you can pick up for a price of a box. guys like clemente, jackie, honus, cobb, selling for less than 75? jumbo jersey 1/1 of phil niekro?? ugh!

dave

I'm the exact opposite. Maybe it's because I only collect patches, but I think Sterling blows away the other two. I haven't really seen too many cards from Prime Cuts that I would actually want to own. Ultimate is second on my list due to all of the jumbo patches, bat barrels and jersey autos. I've spent a ton of money on singles from Sterling and Ultimate, but I think I've only bought two $50 Tony Gwynn patches and one $30 Joe Morgan patch from Prime Cuts.

I voted Prime Cuts. Love this years Ultimate, but with Prime Cuts even if you pull an encased card that only sells for $30 you don't feel ripped off because it's usually a older HOFer. Sure they have prospects encased, but as far as I can tell it's only Porcello, Beckham, and Posey so even then you feel like you got some potential in it.

With Ultimate, you can still pull a jumbo jersey of Brandon Phillips.

Haven't broke Topps Sterling, but it seems very hit/miss, and is only one hit generally.

For buying singles, I'd still go with Prime Cuts, but it's much closer between the three products.

I prefer the cut autograph case hit in prime cuts over the jumbo patch in sterling.

I've pulled the dimaggio and Jim bottomley cut autos out of prime cuts, and out of sterling, red schoendienst and hojo, pretty plain swatches.

2008 Topps Sterling DOES blow the other two away as far as patches is concerned. They each have their strong points, but when talking patches, there really is no comparison. Great Marichal sig btw.

those are some amazing sales and the musial patch ultimate was awesome but we all have to take into effect that when the product is new, the sale prices tend to me much higher. topps sterling has been out about 6 weeks earlier than ultimate. i think musial's 1/1 patches sold for much more than that the 1st few weeks actually and no matter what, prime and ultimate cannot compete with this musial from sterling!

That's the one...couldn't find it on completed.

I guess my counter argument would be that the Ultimate that sold for $310 was out of /5...I wonder what the other 4 loook like.

I picked prime cuts because of thier variety. Out of the 3 products where else can you buy or pull a lefty Groove, Sachel Paige patch, Jim Thorpe and thats just to name a few. Ultimate doesnt even have Ruth or Jackie robinson. It has to be Prime cuts. I mean Prime cuts even has prospect hits in it. The combination of some of the best prospect and Hofers to be pulled is in prime cuts. I thought sterling was a good second because of the hit and miss factor and Ultimate collection even with some of the nice jumbo auto's still have real crappy players you could pull (Worst than the other 2 products IMO). I guess they all have their strong points but only Prime cuts (I believe) you will have a much better chance to get you money back if buying by the box, half case, or case.

Sure isn't!

In fact, it is one of the sickest patches I've ever seen.

:o Hey thanks man, I have a mancrush on it. (Even got a velvet pillow for it but we won't get into that.. )

I've been tracking all of the Rip Sterlings this year so I have a running record for the future. Here they are:

http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c339/ ... 20Ripkens/

The best patches are /10 and the plane or 2 color patches are 1/1's. I don't like that...but, I don't see your patch getting beat.

One thing to keep in mind with Prime Cuts is that it includes the first GU cards of a couple of HOFers. Arky Vaughn's 1st GU card (bat) ever and Joe Medwick (1st GU jersey). As a HOF GU collector, it's nice to get a new person to collect that isn't a recent inductee.

And, Prime Cuts also has Richie Ashburn jersey cards pictured in a Phillies uniform. The only other Ashburn GU cards that I know of picture him in a Giants uni. Most people associate him with the Phillies, so that is another + for Prime Cuts.
