I had a card recently that I wanted. A seller had it up for $250 BIN/BO. I sent in an offer of $215 and he countered with $222. I immediately declined. Very next day he sends an email. Ill sell for $215.
So you countered for 185 then, right

I seen a card that was an auction and it had a reserve on it. I bid and I won it for 10.50 but reserve was not met.
So I send the seller an email and tell him, I have bought about 10 of the cards of this player for sale and would like to have the won I won, and ask him what was his reserve he had on it, since he was not giving it to me for the 10.50. And they average around 20 because I drove up the price buying them.

He come back to me and says he does not do off e-bay deals,( I was not asking him I told him to set a bin for the reserve and e-mail with it up and I would make an offer on it and we could go from there. and he says his reserve was 5 times what I won it for. I sent back to him.
Good luck on getting that, but if you want to move it for say 20 I'm here. This was about 3-4 weeks ago and no relist nor has he contacted me.

I have the Blake Lalli 2011 Bowman Chrome Rainbow. I have picked up two Red Refractors for $35 total. A Plate was listed and the seller had a $100 reserve. Yeah, right. I "won" The auction for like $5.

I offered the seller $45 for it. FORTY FIVE DOLLARS! I didn't even get a response back. Really. lol

I think we all have to realize that some sellers are just stubborn/morons/jerks/whatever the case.

There have been times where an auction ended with no bids, I send the sller an offer, no response.

BINs listed for YEARS, message the seller to see wtf their deal is, no response.

I actually got a message back from one seller who has two cards of a guy I collect (that I can 100% guarantee you NOBODY else collects) saying something to the effect of...I don't care if I ever sell these cards...

...then why the F list them to begin with? ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

There's a particular Gold Ref BGS 9 up that's been there for over a year for $200 BIN/BO. Every couple months I put in an offer and have never gotten a response. Might just be wishful hoping that I might get one someday, but if they're gonna leave it up, can't hurt to offer. I think my last one was $150 and still, no decline/no counter.

It's got to the point that even if I were just to hit the BIN, would they even pay enough attention to send the card?

My thoughts precisely.

and this is like admitting you have zero faith in yourself.
if i have 500 into a card and i know sure as sht im not getting that back,
but i can get 350 back? well my feeling is i have faith in my ability
to work deals and flip cards that ill spend that 350 right and turn it into
600. The 1st scenario is done and gone and im still plus 100. Ill never understand
huge inventories that arent doing any work for you. Only cash in your pocket
can work for you, not delmon young staring back at you in his 10th season
begging you to still have faith.

Stubbornness is one part of it, but the other is that card people have a horrible time when it comes to the concept of "sunk cost" (or to a certain extent "economic loss"). If they paid $800 or whatever for that Butler, either they just can't let go of that fact and hold onto it in spite of market forces (sunk cost), or they don't need the $ that bad, and would rather hold onto it until either he does great and it sells for that price or higher, or they get some sucker (stubborn).

I'd put 707 into a special category, for while they may be stubborn, they are also in no real need to sell anything other than to occasionally fund new purchases. Sellers like them, Burbank, and to a certain extent BMW Sportscards are all sellers that I refer to as "mountain" sellers (IE: "If the mountain won't come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain.) who have either the mammoth or specialized inventory that allows them to name their price and generally get it.

ronnyo is horrible.

Buys cards and prices them at 5+ times what he paid. I don't know how he handles offers, because I have never even tried, why bother.

these people seem to live and die by pt barnum, and as true as it is,
there arent a whole lot of suckers in this game unless a jeremy lin comes along.
there sure as hell isnt anyone on earth who will pay 800 for a butler gold ref now.
that sucker just isnt there, so why not just end the item if you dont want to sell it.

Stubborness

Card collectors IMO are some of the most stubborn people out there when it comes to taking a loss. It seems people would rather keep a card than lose money on it now and hope the player can do better.

707 in vintage is like that, even though SMR and VCP has gone down on some sets by as much as 45% (T202 for one) they will not budge on their pricing.
