Ultra Pro Platinum Pages - damaged

One of my favorite parts about collecting is storing my cards in albums in Ultra Pro Platinum pages and flipping through my albums. So for me, pages are for display and not solely for storage.

Over the course of the last year I've had some issues with the factory sealed boxes of pages I've been buying. Many of the sheets have spotting, smudges, streaking, etc. I am a bit particular - I hold each page up to the light to ensure it is crystal clear before using it, but some of these pages are pretty bad. From the last 4 boxes I have over 100 pages that I could not use for my collection.

I just went to the Ultra Pro site and wrote a complaint. I asked about issues they have with quality and what recourse I may have for my damaged pages. I'll let you guys know if I hear back.

Anyone else have issues like this with Ultra Pro products? Is there a superior alternative out there?

does ultra pro make pages where you can store cards in top loaders, like 4 to the page? That would probably be safer to protect higher end cards ?

They do make 4 pocket pages, intended for postcard sized cards. They'd work well enough for top loaders.

I don't particularly use binders to store any of my sets in. I've got maybe 8 or so stored in binders. Things like the Allen and Ginter mini's are kinda hard to store any other way(decently that is). But I do use penny sleeves a lot and I have noticed that maybe 1 out of every 5 packs I buy has serious issues. Sometimes I've gotten even worse ratios. In any case, you will sometimes get a whole pack that is miscut. Like half of them will be way too small to fit a standard size card in and the other half will be way too large and allow the card a lot of room to move around in. I've also gotten packs where the whole pack had a nice big crease line in it. Not where it has been folded over. I'm talking...this line has been stamped into the damn penny sleeve. Maybe a heat problem with the machinery. I've also gotten packs where every penny sleeve(yes, all of them) had a big heat bubble on them so, if you put a card in there, it could eventually make an indentation.

I've also noticed on their toploaders, every now and again, I'll buy a pack where one whole side is stuck together on all of them. Basically it looks like an open book when you try to pull them apart. They come apart on one side but all stick together on another. Probably a heat thing too. But I have yet to run across a better company than ultra pro. They seem to have the highest quality products out there.

BCW? All I know is I see it at Walmart or Target, I don't buy it unless it says ultra pro. I purchased a pack of 35 toploaders of their knockoff brand once when I was a little hard up for some and didn't feel like driving to a shop. I get them home and they won't even hold a card in a standard size penny sleeve. The card would fit fine but the penny sleeves made it too wide to fit.

As far as them offering returns, would you bother unless it was a large quantity? I could see you ordering a case of stuff and it being worth your trouble. But one box of pages or a few packs of toploaders or penny sleeves and at that point, you'd be spitting into the wind.

Exactly. Not worth the trouble. Considering it sounds like there's nothing better out there on the market, I'll just have to take out the crappy ones and eat the loss. At least now I know that going in. I also wanted to hear back from the company.

I have always had great luck with BCW products.I know I am in the minority but I prefer BCW.

I've had issues in the past with the slots for the pages being cut properly, so the area where the card was suppose to go was essentially just a pocket of air in the plastic sheet. An easy enough fix but annoying none the less.

That's cool that you got a response. I have a few pages where the holes are not aligned properly and the pages are off once I put them in a binder. In a regular binder, it's not that big of an issue, but in those plastic binders that snap close that everyone was talking about, it won't close properly without pinching the lower end of the pages so I had to take them out.

At least you got a response thus far. Cant wait to hear how it turns out. I too use Ultra Pro Pages, and the only problem i have really had was on one page the bottom of the top row wasnt sealed and my cards slid thru.

Not surprisingly, trying to use a scanner to see the damage was a ridiculous failure. So, I said this:

If there is any hope of receiving a replacement box for the 100 or so damaged pages I have, it would be much easier for me to just mail you a group of samples. In many cases, the damage appears in each of the nine windows of the page.



I just placed an order for two boxes through a retailer on Amazon earlier this week. I will let you know how that goes as well.

Squeaky wheel... I'll also be posting about the condition of the two boxes I get from Amazon and the replacement box I get from Ultra Pro. I am pretty picky, but some of the pages I've been putting aside are really bad.
