I sold a card now for a higher end price and when the buyer paid, it showed their address as unconfirmed.

If I ship with a signature confirmation through paypal, am I protected from a claim?

Im not sure what the difference between protected and unprotected boils down to if I use the proper channels.

You are absolutely NOT protected. Unconfirmed addresses are the biggest scam on paypal. I shipped a comic to a guy with an unconfirmed address once, and it was bad. 45 days after the auction, he files a non-receipt on me. I had delivery confirmation showing online as delivered, and he even left me positive feedback, but Paypal sided with him, claiming that someone could have access to his ebay account, paypal account, and his mailbox, and so it's all on me. I never got a satisfactory answer as to why they allow 'unconfirmed' addresses, but whatever. I wouldn't ship it until he confirms the address.

No way. Either have him confirm his address, or just refund the money and relist.

I have to wonder though because my address cannot be confirmed (called paypal and this is what I was told even though I live in the U.S.). I am pretty sure that ebay or paypal offers some sort of protection towards people who ship to unconfirmed addys.

You're best bet would be to contact paypal and ask for the best way to ship so you're covered.

Well I called PP and spoke with their CS and they said I am eligible for the seller protection as long as I send it to the address listed in paypal.

They said if I use signature confirmation, it would be better.

I always ship through paypal, so they said that is good as well.

I flat out told them I didnt want to get scammed and have paypal side with the buyer because of
"it might not have been the buyer using the account..."

The buyer also has 100% FB so it doesnt look like they are actively scamming people.

I dont have a bad feeling, and If the buyer does pull this crap at the 45 day mark, and PP sides with them after telling me i'll be protected, im done with ebay and paypal forever.

There is advanced seller protection for PoweSellers on eBay that will protect w/unconfirmed address. I think u have to actually sign up for advanced seller protection though.

Here are the basic protection guidlines.

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c ... #coverage8

Do I have to ship to a confirmed address to be covered under Seller Protection?
You have to ship the item to the shipping address on the “Transaction Details” page and the transaction must be marked eligible or partially eligible for Seller Protection on the “Transaction Details” page.

Items sold on eBay will be marked eligible even if the shipping address is marked unconfirmed. Generally, items sold on websites other than eBay will be marked eligible if the shipping address is marked confirmed and partially eligible if the shipping address is marked unconfirmed.

If it is marked eligible, protection for both unauthorized payments and items not received will apply. If it is marked partially eligible, protection for only items not received will apply

Couldn't you just send with insurance? If they say they never got it, then you can file a claim with the post office to get your money back. If they lie to the post office, then they'd be in much bigger trouble than scamming you. I recently bought something for around $160 that I wanted sent to my new address (unconfirmed). I have great feedback, but I offered to pay for the insurance so I could get it and they would be protected.
