Considering that I'm rooting for an all-out, extinction-level, season-long, fourth-place BLEEPshow from the Red Sox this year, I think I can get behind this Tiger team to actually do good things.

(I feel bad for Pedroia, who I've always really liked, but there needs to be a serious culture change in Boston, and missing the playoffs by one or two games isn't enough to get it done.)

Game 3

The Tigers set off more fireworks today. Miguel Cabrera hit a 3 run homer in the 9th to tie the game and Alex Avila hit a 2 run homer in the 11th to come from behind and beat the Red Sox 13-12.

I think I'm going to ditch work and go to one of the game against the Rays this week.
Too bad they had to use 8 pitchers today. Hoping it's just one bad outing Scherzer.

Good thing they have an off day tomorrow. And I'm looking forward to Porcello vs. Moore Tuesday afternoon.

Cabrera has to be one of the most clutch players I've ever seen. It seemed like a third of his homers last year were either to tie the game or take the lead in the 8th inning or beyond, and he's already at it again. It's awesome to have some real protection for him so he gets lots of pitches to hit. It'll be fun to watch opposing pitchers try to handle this tandem the rest of the season.

Boston's problem is that they have too much money tied up in players not earning their keep right now. But it's only been three games. Besides, with a break or two, they could have won two of the games against Detroit.

I remember his April last year was really bad until they fixed his delivery. I hope someone finds the problem with him before May comes along.

Well stated. It's also been nice seeing Jackson getting on base to set the table for Cabrera and Fielder. Jackson is 8 for 14 with 2 walks and 5 runs scored.

That's going to be huge if he keeps that up. There was an extended stretch last year where you could pretty much count on him to strikeout to leadoff the game. Sometimes it would be three straight fastballs down the middle and he just couldn't touch them. The Tigers are going to be tough to stop if his OBP is up in the .350-.400 range this season.

Don't they have over $60m on the DL?

jackson looks alot more confident at the plate this year, especially with two strikes...i still think tigers will be looking to get another pitcher before the trade deadline, kind of like they did last year picking up fister..also i like raburns bat, but i really find it hard to believe there is another major league baseball player or even a minor league player that is as bad as him in the field, it really is hard to watch

Raburn in the field is just plain awful.

There are times that I just ask myself how someone can possibly be that bad in the field when they have been playing the game for 15+ years. How is it possible? I have seen him drop fly balls 3 or 4 different times, in game 163 vs Twins he played a line drive that should have been caught, into a triple that cost the Tigers the game, and I could go on and on. It's just really hard to watch.

How about that pop up past first base that he overran? He looked like a 10 year old little leaguer in need of his first eye appointment on that play. :?

I have to say that Cabrera's defense the last two games after his flubs in Game 1 has been rock solid. He's made some plays.

i say the same thing when i watch him, when they put him in left today i knew he would screw up somehow, normally its just simple pop flys that he misplays though...my all time favorite raburn error was this one

Doesn't make them any more likeable.

I don't want to hijack the thread, though. I think Cabrera hits 50 homers this year. Or gets 50 intentional walks, and Prince drives in 130 runs.

Game 4

The Tigers move to 4-0. Porcello pitched 7 solid innings. Austin Jackson continues his red hot start with two walks and a home run.

Matt Moore pitched solid as well. He had a hard time finding the plate some time but 2 runs against the Tigers offense is pretty good.

LOVE seeing Porcello pitch like that especially against a team with a decent lineup. If he's going to pitch like he did today, the Tigers are even better off than we thought.

Seems like the offense is too tough to be held for 9 innings. Eventually they broke through and opened it wide open with the 3 run eighth inning.

Game 5

WTF just happened? Verlander cruises into the 9th inning with a one hit shutout and the wheels fell off. First he hung a curveball that Tampa got their first hit in the ninth inning. Then he tried overthrowing the rest of his pitches that inning.

Shields threw a nice game for Tampa.

I guess it's a good thing they took him out in Game 1.

Anyone else hate RP? More games are lost across the league in the last 2 innings, than the first 7. Since the start of May the SP has a 1.92 ERA, and they only have 2 wins to show for it.

That, and the Tigers offense is horrible for some reason. They are only averaging a little over 3.5 runs a game so far. That's pretty pathetic, and not going to win many games.

Thanks for updating this thread. I forgot about it. The bottom half of the order has been a tremendous disappointment. And the relief pitching has not been good. Putkonen? He's the answer???

Props to Cabrera for his two run homer in the 9th yesterday. Another loss with 9+ runners LOB would have been too much to handle.
