So recently I picked up this 1993 UD set soley because I cant ever recall seeing it.

As you can see, it was made exclusive for Target and SERIALLY NUMBERED /14,500
The box is also different than the common reg factory sets.

Google search/ ebay search have turned up nothing, And no one Beckett has an idea either.

The serially numbering has me thinking maybe this was some special gold holo set? I know they were random in reg Hobby sets back then though. I mean, why would they number it if it was just a basic set?

Anyone have an idea? Itching to crack it but I love odd ball very htf things.

Hmm. Never heard of it either. Would be interested in knowing if the cards within the set are different. Hope for a blue hologram so you can sell the Jeter for 10K

Nothing to lose honestly. Worst case scenario is you've got a Jeter rookie to sell

The gold hologram sets were 1 set per case, and they were turned around different from the other sets. So, you knew which one was the gold set from just a quick glance.

I doubt they are any different then the regular over produced 93 Upper Deck.
I could be wrong and it might be a white letter set and if that's the case I will
take the Griffey off your hands :D

I'm still hoping for Red or Blue Holograms on the reverse, but if they are different in any way, I'm interested in the Will Clark if you start selling singles.

Re: Scan of 1993 UD TARGET FACTORY SET /14,500...anyone know?

not cracked....yet.
I have a customer who has like every factory set made. Waiting for hin to come in and see if he has it.

But someone today came up w an interesting thought. For a company so huge and with so many stores in the country, 14,500 sets would break down to very few per store. Probably not making it even worthwhile.
He suggested maybe it was a sort of company give away to certain employees.

I don't know, sounds good. Theres no price tag or indentation on the set.

Looking at the showcased cards on the box makes me believe it was issued very late in 1993 as both pizza and salmon "rookies" are both on the front, the yr they won roy.

Do you have scans of the other sides?

Are you sure it's a factory set, could it possibly contain something else? The reason I ask is the "Upper Deck Salutes Future Legends" heading and the aforementioned Piazza/Salmon photos instead of the ones found on factory sets.

Some more scans of the other sides may help figure it out before you crack it.

EDIT:

Here is a link to a worthpoint sale http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1993-upper-deck-factory-sealed-set-jeter-rookie-3

No way these cards are any different than the regular 1993 Upper Deck issue. It's just limited packaging with normal cards inside.

The front is pictured on page one.

One side has pics of another griffey, fryman, another thomas, gil, gates, brady anderson, smoltz, gallarraga.

Other side has gooden, I rod, harvey, mccarthy, salmon rookie cl, another sandberg, another bonds, another alomar.

Both end of the set read 1993 factory set.

Actually, it would be almost 140 boxes per store, that would be a TON of product. I've worked at Target for 10 years now. I helped open the store I work at, and we're store #1417. Target has around 1600 stores in the US and probably had around 1,000 to 1,200 stores or even less in 1993. On average we sell about 20-30 sealed sets through out the year. Cards were a bigger deal in the '90's, so 100-150 sets might be about right, but I can't remember if companies were doing special inserts or promos for specific stores back then. I'd assume that it's a regular base set with Target packaging.
