I went to a card shop today, and I was told by the owner that he/his distributor would not be Upper Deck series 1 cards, as they were being recalled, and that Signature Stars and Ultimate Collection may soon be recalled too. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I know MLB is pissed at them for using the team logos and other things can't use since they do not have
an agreement any more with MLB so this maybe why?!????

An Upper Deck recall? :?

Another Sweet Spot type recall with the Eisner card and the Bonds * card. All that one did is drive sales.
Maybe it a rumor that UD started to help hype and sell product.

Major League Baseball Properties issued a statement to Beckett Media on Friday regarding a pair of 2009 baseball card sets from Upper Deck that use MLB logos as part of the cards, despite Topps‘ role as the exclusive licensee of MLB.

“We are surprised and disappointed that Upper Deck, a former partner of ours, would violate our contract by clearly using our intellectual property without our permission,” said the statement issued by Matt Bourne MLB’s Vice President of Business Public Relations.

“We will vigorously use all legal means to protect the intellectual property of Major League Baseball and its member Clubs.”

Upper Deck is licensed solely by the MLB Players Association, not MLB Properties. The products that MLB is addressing are 2009 Ultimate Collection and 2009 Signature Stars, which carry statements that the cards are not authorized by MLB but also do not obscure team logos in the photographs.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.

So I'm guessing UD released some "2009" products in 2010 in hopes it would get by MLB.

I dont think so. If anything, with the appropriate media coverage there might be a very short price spike but i doubt it will last.

There was a post in the discussion thread following the Beckett article where a guy said is LCS couldn't order anymore Ultimate because of the legal action. I wonder if there's anything to that, as I was surprised to see full logos on some Ultimate cards, though they'd conspicuously cropped some photos so as not to show cap logos, etc.

I do wonder about Signature Stars. Seems not heavily opened yet, going by what's on ebay. If there's some sort of injunction, maybe very little ever gets out.

As a private person sitting on a sealed case I am very curious to see what happens Monday. Will Atl, D&A, Blowout pull cases or sell with pending offers Sunday night?

I don;t know how sturdy those cases are, but it might be wise to get a chair.

You guys are awesome.

BTW, has anyone else noticed how relatively little ULT singles are on ebay?
