Not sure if this has been posted or not, but the Upper Deck store at the Bella Terra Mall has closed down. Everything in that store was gone.

There was even an eviction notice on the door that said UD is 2 months behind on rent and owe $20,000

They had some neat signings when the store first opened up, but they were so overpriced, that it was hard to want to buy things there. Plus, Bella Terra seemed like a fairly random spot for UD. I could possibly see them having more success @ say Irvine Spectrum (more foot traffic friendly/easier parking).

Actually. Ud is enjoying some marked product success. If they can trim the fat they can do quite well.

They proved people will still buy college football cards.

I've had issues with some of the ways they've handled things in the past (i.e. redemptions), but why anyone would root for a company (especially an American one), to fail is beyond me. A healthy UD is in everyone's best interests. Have you guys seen the new Exquisite football? It looks terrific.

Got a bunch of Lakers over the past couple years there. The public signings were always good when they had them.

not really surprising i cant think of the last time i saw a mall store succeed. in this economy why sink money into an venue that is leaking? the 20k wouldnt bother me either... a lot of those stores stay without paying lease/rent until they are evicted. they also may have broken their lease, vacated early, and the property manager is just dotting the t's and crossing the i's.

Agree 100%. I do feel that for a while the companies were riding on the fact that people were buying pretty much anything that was put out there, and the struggles now look like they may be forcing the companies to reassess and pout out quality product (at least to some degree.)

If you've been screwed over as many times by Upper Deck on a personal and professional level as many of the people here have been, you'd understand why. Who gives a flip if they are an American company or not? Bad is bad, and UD is beyond bad.

and soon I think UD will go into bankrupcy - one of the online sellers just sent out their letter saying they are a UD authorized retailer and included all the rules you have to follow to buy boxes (or be denied boxes for one year if you live in Canada or forever if you break certain rules).

With UD's staff so small, I wonder how they are going to police the distribution of their product to create the "do not sell to" list.

What does UD being an 'American company' have to do with either supporting them or not? Do so on the company's merit and not because of some blind patriotism that has nothing to do with collecting trading cards or how a company does business.

Why would you root for them to fail? If you don't like them, don't buy from them. You don't have to pray they go away because they'll come and take a dump on your doorstep uninvited. Jeez...

They've done pretty well with the NCAA exclusive license. There are some kinks, but for the first year, I think it was on the successful side.

Upper Deck and I though all the years ive dealt with them have been nothing but A1 to me, always there to answer questions, emails and help on redemptions ive had to deal with, im not sure if it was just me, but I'd hate for to see them go away completely

Is anyone going to buy football cards, not to mention inferior college football cards, when there is no season? Now
is a good time to get on the horn and ask for replacments for any redemptions, when UD closes their doors
redemption holders will be the first people they screw!

Right now in the offseason and if there is no season is when their football cards will probably flourish. They also aren't an "inferior" college card. They're done very well, some of their products are setting new highs for college card sales on the secondary market.

And personally, I'm looking to buy college football cards (albeit via secondary market) of the Canes they've had in their products.

If there is no NFL season, I would think more people would turn to college football. So in turn, more people would buy college football products.
